This bug is fixed upstream in kernel 2.6.35.8. I've added apport information from running 10.04 on that notebook (not from 10.09 because system does not boot) and have tried 28/09/2010 daily build. Now system hangs on black screen without blinking cursor. Booting with debug option hangs in the same way. If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal).
