USB disk
This bug seems to affect me whenever any IO takes place. It occurs when
accessing my internal SATA hard drive. I am using ext4 and NTFS on my
internal hard drive, although the file system does not seem to make a
difference.

I am on 11.04 as well. I just switched from Gentoo to Ubuntu today, and
I did not have this problem under Gentoo. IOWait makes the system
completely unusable.

This problem seems to be solved in ubuntu 11.04.
Can you try to upgrade to 11.04?
