This package has been removed from the Ubuntu development release, so I
am closing all remaining open bug reports.
Sorry that we couldn't fix your problem properly, but gpointing-device-
settings is dead upstream, buggy and completely unmaintained.

2 finger scrolling
Here's what worked for me - after installing gpointing-device-settings,
I use the mouse and touchpad settings from the ubuntu system settings
and enabled two finger scrolling from there. These settings seems to
stay after boot.
