I know that I am posting on two lists and that is evil but I just wanted to
point out that I put some of the sounds into the ubuntu-sounds package and
put it in my PPA (https://launchpad.net/~kwwii/+archive) for Hardy, so you
can test them now without having to update your system yet.

I like these sounds. I think the exit sounds should be even shorter
(or non-existent), when you logout, don't you want to go fast? :-)
Unless the login/logout sounds play alongside actual login/logou
Hi again
I've updated the system sound package with more sounds, shorted
versions and three different exit sounds. I'm not sure if this is the

Please post feedback!

Hi
I'm the one who created the system sound this thread is discussing.
Ubuntu certainly needs new sounds and I will do my best to create a
new set. The sounds previous mentioned has a few problems to them and
that is why I would ask you not to use them as default sound. Also I
would like the chance
A definite +1 too.
Since the new system sounds appeared, I switch back to the old one
extracting them from the old package (and no, I am usually not refractoty to
changes ;)).
Even if the old welcoming one is too long, it enables me, taking a train for

Hi,
I'll add my +1 to this suggestion. I'm afraid to say that I've never
liked the current system sounds - I thought the old ones sounded a
more professional and distinctive, and I agree with others that we
need to find an unobtrusive but distinctive sound which can become

As someone who thinks quite a bit about the look and feel of
Ubuntu/Ubuntu Studio I'm always on the lookout for pretty things that
stand out around our community.
This set of system sounds caught my ears:

Doesn't concern me much, since I disable those sounds first thing!
Remember that people use their laptops and take them to public places. I
think the sound Cory attached is more 'mellow' for a logon sound than the
current attention grabber. In short, I like it.
