Groups in the "global static" range (0-99) are permanently allocated and can never be removed, although of course we can stop using them. -- Colin Watson [cjwat...@ubuntu.com] -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss
dip: unused group but still available.
Hi By reading Ubuntu Wiki[1] about Device Permissions we can find something interesting in 'Implementation' subheading and notes about various default groups. My question is about a 'dip' group, which is available in e.g. Xubuntu 12.04 LTS. It's very interesting, because on mentioned Wiki page we could read, that 'dip' group is unused in Ubuntu. * dip: Unused in Ubuntu, should just go away completely. But this group is still in '/etc/group' file. Also default user is already in 'dip' group. So what should I do? Remove, leave as is or delete user from this group? Generally: why it's available when Wiki page contains different information? Best regards. __ [1] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/Specs/Intrepid/DevicePermissions -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss

The wiki page you linked is about 'Intrepid', which is an old release, and not the release you are currently using.
