Source file bind9

2017-04-07 Thread Alexandre Vilarinho
Hello all
I'm trying to get the source file for bind9, so I can compile it to support
MySQL, but when I run the following command I get an error informing that the
source code wasn't found.
root@Linux-Services-Server:/usr/local/src/bind9# apt-get build-dep bind9Reading
package lists... DoneE: Unable to find a source package for bind9
root@Linux-Services-Server:/usr/local/src/bind9# apt-get source bind9Reading
package lists... DoneE: Unable to find a source package for
bind9root@Linux-Services-Server:/usr/local/src/bind9#
Where can i get bind9 source code?
I using the following ubuntu server distribution:
root@Linux-Services-Server:/usr/local/src/bind9# lsb_release -aNo LSB modules
are available.Distributor ID: UbuntuDescription: Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTSRelease:
16.04Codename: xenialroot@Linux-Services-Server:/usr/local/src/bind9#
I accessed the following web page
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/amd64/bind9), but there was no address to
the git repo.
I've added the following repo address deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu
xenial-security main to /etc/apt/sources.list and still nothing.
Regards
Alex

Yannubuntu, if you are monitoring the list, could you put links to

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Yannubuntu

and

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair

in your sourceforge project wiki and user profile, to let people know
that you are actually taking responsibility for the project, and that
you really are a member of the Ubuntu community?

And it would be really great to see some source code somewhere.

(I still think it's an easy enough operation to do this with regular
tools, and nearly essential knowledge if you consider yourself a
responsible computer user, but I also know that there are users who
need the reassurance of pushbutton solutions.)

Kind of. I think you're referring to:

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1623256

So there is a bit of convergence, although I don't believe Ubuntu's
debhelper has yet gained the changes to take advantage of my
launchpad-buildd tweak. I imagine that will happen at some point
though; converging debhelper where possible is generally worthwhile.

Debian uses the .deb extension rather than .ddeb, and switching to that
would be a rather more complex endeavour. Personally I think this was a
mistake and argued that at the time, but I didn't succeed. At any rate,
it would require some probably-possible but rather complex changes to
Launchpad's upload processor to make it able to handle using the same
extension for both.

Debian is slowly dropping manual debug symbol packages (-dbg) in favour
of automatic ones (-dbgsym).

https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2015/12/msg00262.html

Ubuntu have automatic debug packages (.ddebs) since ever, and in case a
manual -dbg package exists it transitionally pulls it in:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Debug%20Symbol%20Packages

I know a little work happened to make Ubuntu build debug packages as
does Debian now, I guess this work will (very) slowly make them
converge.

What happened to the *-dbg packages in Ubuntu 17.04?

2017-04-07 Thread Nathan Osman
Hi,

I recently switched to the second beta of Kubuntu 17.04. I attempted to
install the qtbase5-dbg package, only to discover that it was absent. In
fact, not only was this package missing but all of the *-dbg packages for
Qt components were missing.

Is there another package that provides the debug symbols? Why were these
packages removed?

Re: So, now it looks like we will never get a phone, ever

2017-04-07 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Can a fairly long-term non-geeky Ubuntu user, such as myself, install the
OS on a tablet? I'm not great at rtfm but i'm not completely useless on
the command-line and i have a spare device that i can relax and take my
time figuring it out.

With 2 big projects shelving this project is it time to give up on it and
move to the shiny new projects or could this go the way of Kubuntu,
Thunderbird or perhaps even Lubuntu or LibreOffice? Is now the best time
for me to try using it before it fades away or rejuvenates?

Regards from
Tom :)

2017-04-07 Thread Fòram na Gàidhlig
Well, that's a tinker phone. Nice for geeks like us, but for the average
user, not so much. I am talking about a phone for the average
computer-illierate who doesn't know any more about computer than swipe &
tap. We really need something out-of-the-box.

Even as a computer literate, I estimate that I'l need to spend at least
half an hour on their homepage doing some RTFM before I'll even
understand how to get the thing.

From my experience as a localizer, most big FLOSS projects take about
10-15 years until they are mature, I really don't get why phone
development is not being given the same chance.
