Only possibility would be fglrx. The driver (2:8.512-0ubuntu1) is installed but - according to the Hardware Drivers tool - unused. lsmod shows the radeon driver as loaded. Trying to do a glxinfo results in a segfault of the tool. Possibly related is a number of attempted beeps on Gnome startup.
