I have also encountered this - ever since my clean install of 9.10 -
both movie player, and VLC will consistently display this behaviour with
any video file played.
After a few minutes of normal video playing, the sound will mute, and
the video will FF or freeze.

I've just re-tested using a fully updated Ubuntu 8.10 and firefox 3.0.5
I haven't been able to reproduce the bug.

and epiphany on the following page:

Under hardy heron 8.04 (dev) updating smb-common and smbclient from
30.0.28a.0ubuntu to 30.0.28a.0ubuntu breaks nautilus network browsing.

Acsess using smb://computername or smbmount still works well.
