Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Landing team 21.09.16
Hello Matthias! It was indeed a strange design decision with the update notification only arriving when the new image is downloaded. But as Jonas already mentioned, this should not be the case in OTA-13 and later. The new ubuntu-system-settings update panel (available in OTA-13) now notifies of a new update available and allows downloading it regardless of the auto-download setting. This is much more intuitive. I think it even hid a pending image update from the UI. That should not happen post OTA13; if there's a pending update, we download it automatically if you request it. If not, you'll always have the option to download it from the System Settings UI. Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Landing team 21.09.16
Hey! So as for update deployment it's as Rodney already said. By saying 'update fully deployed' this does not mean 'all users now upgraded to the new version'. I simply meant by this that the update is now fully phased and is available for everyone to update. With each release we do this phased upgrade procedure where the update is deployed in phases only to certain theoretical percentages of users as a safe-measure - since if there's a critical bug we missed, this way if we act early enough the number of affected devices will be considerably lower. After the percentage reaches 100%, the update is finalized. Anyway, hope it's all clear now. Cheers! The push notification from the server is not what results in the notification being shown on the screen. The push notification for system updates results in the new update being downloaded, and then the notification is shown once the download is complete. If a device is configured to only automatically download the updates on wifi, then the notification won't appear when on cellular data, because the updated image cannot be downloaded. I would agree this is slightly odd, and could be considered a usability bug. I'm not sure if a bug is already open about this or not. > 2. Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Landing team 21.09.16
Hello, Lukasz said in the daily Landing team message on September, 21: "... Oh, and OTA-13 is now fully deployed (since a longer time even). Please be sure to fill in bugs for issues you notice on the respective Launchpad projects..." Yesterday evening, around 10pm CEST, I helped some user of a BQ E4.5 to update from OTA-12 to OTA-13. The problem was, that for having Wifi off she was not even announced of the deployment of OTA-13. This let me ask two questions: 1. Why the announcement of OTA-13 available is not coming down also via data mobile? 2. How you (Lukasz or Canonical) measure the percentage or fully deployment? At least one device was not updated over on September, 21. Hello everyone, Another rather quiet day in the landing world. Today we only had a new dbus-test-runner with tweaks (for automated testing), unity-scope-click with packaging changes, pay-service library versioning fix and a new touch meta package adding address-book-loader to the seeds as it will be no longer pulled in as a dependency. The current main focus of many developers is getting the whole unity8 stack from universe to main [1] in the yakkety archives. Since long this was a big issue that will now finally be addressed. In practice this does not change much for end-users, but this way we'll be ensuring that all these packages get the right attention and maintenance that they deserve. Oh, and OTA-13 is now fully deployed (since a longer time even). Please be sure to fill in bugs for issues you notice on the respective Launchpad projects [2].
