This is both great news and a good step in the right direction. It would at
least get everyone marching towards the same goal.

20.04 LTS applications - confirmation

2020-02-10 Thread Dustin Krysak
Hello all,

I just had a few quick questions regarding the application for LTS status.
Last time around we (Ubuntu Budgie - and it was our first LTS release as a
flavour) had to prepare an application Wiki page and attend and IRC meeting
with the technical board (if my memory is not failing me from 2017). Is this
needed this time around since we would be going into our second LTS release?
Is there any deadline for an application this time around? From looking at the
mailing archives it looks like a poll was simply sent (Early April) to the
mailing list in which we had to respond confirming LTS participation.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,
Dustin

I follow suit with Steve here with regards to the automated testing (the

And from the sounds of it, the process has already been vetted.

Bionic Beaver 18.04 Beta 1 Released!

2018-03-09 Thread Dustin Krysak
"The beaver told the rabbit as they stared at the Hoover Dam: No, I didn't
build it myself, but it's based on an idea of mine".
-- Charles Hard Townes

The first beta of the Bionic Beaver (to become 18.04) has now been
released, and is available for download!

This milestone features images for Kubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu Kylin,
Ubuntu MATE, and Xubuntu.

Pre-releases of the Bionic Beaver are *not* encouraged for anyone needing a
stable system or anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional,
even frequent breakage. They are, however, recommended for Ubuntu flavour
developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting, and fixing
bugs as we work towards getting this release ready.

Beta 1 includes some software updates that are ready for broader testing.
However, it is quite an early set of images, so you should expect some bugs.

While these Beta 1 images have been tested and do work, except as noted in
the release notes, Ubuntu developers are continuing to improve the Bionic
Beaver. In particular, once newer daily images are available, system
installation bugs identified in the Beta 1 installer should be verified
against the current daily image before being reported in Launchpad. Using
an obsolete image to re-report bugs that have already been fixed wastes
your time and the time of developers who are busy trying to make 18.04 the
best Ubuntu release yet. Always ensure your system is up to date before
reporting bugs.

[Kubuntu]
Kubuntu is the KDE-based flavour of Ubuntu. It uses the KDE Plasma desktop
and includes a wide selection of tools from the KDE project.

The Kubuntu 18.04 Beta 1 images can be downloaded from:

More information about Kubuntu 18.04 Beta 1 can be found here:
* https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BionicBeaver/Beta1/Kubuntu

[Ubuntu Budgie]
Ubuntu Budgie is the Budgie Desktop based flavour of Ubuntu. Combines the
simplicity and elegance of the Budgie interface to produce a traditional
desktop orientated distro with a modern paradigm.

The Ubuntu Budgie 18.04 Beta 1 images can be downloaded from:

[Ubuntu Kylin]
Ubuntu Kylin is a flavour of Ubuntu that is more suitable for Chinese users.

More information about Ubuntu Kylin 18.04 Beta 1 can be found here:

[Ubuntu MATE]
Ubuntu MATE is the MATE Desktop based flavour of Ubuntu. It is ideal for
those who want the most out of their computers and prefer a traditional
desktop metaphor.

The Ubuntu MATE 18.04 Beta 1 images can be downloaded from:
* http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-mate/releases/18.04/beta-1/

More information about Ubuntu MATE 18.04 Beta 1 can be found here:
* https://ubuntu-mate.org/blog/ubuntu-mate-bionic-beta1/*

[Xubuntu]
Xubuntu is the Xfce Desktop based flavour of Ubuntu. It is perfect for
those who want the most out of their desktops, laptops and netbooks with a
modern look. It works well on older hardware too.

The Xubuntu 18.04 Beta 1images can be downloaded from:
* http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/18.04/beta-1/

More information about Xubuntu 18.04 Beta 1 can be found here:

If you're interested in following the changes as we further develop the
Bionic Beaver, we suggest that you subscribe to the ubuntu-devel-announce
list. This is a low-traffic list (a few posts a week) carrying
announcements of approved specifications, policy changes, beta releases and
other exciting events.

A big thank you to the developers and testers for their efforts to pull
together this Beta release!

Bionic Beaver Beta 1

2018-03-05 Thread Dustin Krysak
Hey everyone,

Is there any interest in getting a beta one rolling? Initially set for
March 1st, the updated schedule is calling for March 8th. I know there is a
sprint in progress in which many of the Nusakan admins are attending, so I
am just attempting to get that portion locked down.

I have created the required wiki page for sign up located over at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BionicBeaver/Beta1.

Does the Release Team have any feedback?

Since this is an LTS release, the alphas were a no go; people are seeding
snap packages, some of the flavours are moving pretty fast, it would help
to get this beta on the move. I've
also signed myself up for checklist tracking for this one, so I just
need someone from the Release Team to volunteer to take care of Nusakan (as
mentioned above - the sprint may pose some issues) and cron job disabling
(the usual stuff). I know in the past (so I heard) timezones can be tricky.
For reference, I am in the PST time zone.

Ubuntu Budgie is a yes for sure, but if other flavours would like to
participate, please edit the above wiki page (or send me an email and I can
take care of it) with updated contact information if applicable and the
location for your release notes. If a representative from a flavour doesn't
respond or edit the wiki page, I'll assume that they aren't participating.

If anyone feels there are any gaps, let me know.

Thanks, everyone!

Ubuntu Budgie will not be participating in Alpha 1, however, we will be in

Apply for lts (18.04) status - Ubuntu Budgie

2017-11-27 Thread Dustin Krysak
Good day everyone,

Since 18.04 will be the first LTS for Ubuntu Budgie, I posted over on the
community hub (
https://community.ubuntu.com/t/applying-for-lts-status-ubuntu-budgie/2309/3) to
find out the process to apply for lts status for the upcoming release. It
was suggested that I post here stating the intended support duration that
we planned on supporting the LTS... The Ubuntu Budgie team was looking to
do a 3 year support cycle.

Is any additional information needed? I saw in the past that a proposals
had been drafted on wiki.ubuntu.com. Is the process documented any where?

Any direction would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Artful Aardvark 17.10 Alpha 2 Availability

Pre-releases of the Artful Aardvark are *not* encouraged for anyone needing
a stable system or anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional,
even frequent breakage. They are, however, recommended for Ubuntu flavour
developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting, and fixing
bugs as we work towards getting this release ready.

Alpha 2 includes some software updates that are ready for wider testing,
however, it is quite an early set of images, so you should expect some bugs.

While these Alpha 2 images have been tested and do work, except as noted in
the release notes, Ubuntu developers are continuing to improve the Artful
Aardvark. In particular, once newer daily images are available, system
installation bugs identified in the Alpha 2 installer should be verified
against the current daily image before being reported in Launchpad. Using
an obsolete image to re-report bugs that have already been fixed wastes
your time and the time of developers who are busy trying to make 17.10 the
best Ubuntu release yet. Always ensure your system is up to date before
reporting bugs.

Artful Aardvark Alpha 2?

2017-07-20 Thread Dustin Krysak
Hello everyone,

I'm currently signed up (With Simon Quigley) to do checklist tracking
for Alpha 2 next week, so we are wondering, who is looking to
participate?

As with Alpha 1 to properly keep track of who is and who isn't
participating (instead of having to sort through emails), we would be
coordinating on the wiki
page:*https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ArtfulAardvark/Alpha2
<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ArtfulAardvark/Alpha2>*

If it has changed, please also update the contact information for your
flavor's release team and the link to where your release notes will
be.

If you don't have access to the wiki, feel free to send me or Simon an
email or a ping on IRC/Telegram and we can get that sorted out.

Thanks!
