Although the module in question is not provided by Ubuntu, I was able to
confirm this problem. It does not appear to be a problem with the
Drupal6 package; rather, it appears to be a problem with the php5-curl
installation.
Simply running
* sudo dpkg-reconfigure php5-curl
* sudo
You don't have to reconfigure.
Just restart apache, so new configuration with enabled cURL is read.
But I guess we should print out something like:
Run '/etc/init.d/apache2 restart' to activate new configuration!
after installation.

difference.
I removed qemu and ran kvm - no difference.

me get back to the screen and run

mysql-dsfg-5.0 is currently in universe and the plan is to get rid of it
during the next release cycle. The transition to 5.1 is ongoing in
Debian and we would benefit from at the next release cycle.

Thanks for the response. Yes, that line was from package php5-xdebug. I
had tried using that package to help track down the bug. I uninstalled
it and the crash still occurs in the same way, only the stacktrace now
doesn't include the xdebug part of course.

permissions problem. I believe the how-to should be changed to ensure
this doesn't happen to anyone else. Problem was that my private
keyfile did not provide read permissions to the group.
