Mathias: IIRC, the compat workaround only works if you have all users in
the local passwd database. You still won't be able to use sudo, or run
any other setuid binary that uses nss-services, for users that don't
exist in the local passwd database.

I read all of the diffs between 1.4.1 and 1.4.4 but didn't find any
likely suspects. However, tracing the library initialization in gdb, I
found the specific problem.
Ordinarily gnutls will initialize the gcrypt library, if no app has done
so already. In the gnutls initialization, it specifically
hmm, it seems to die in (or at least not proceed to) $KERNEL_IMG_CMD
possibly due to bashisms in setup_kernel_image() (i need to fix that)
that in turn seems to make the VM not exit properly...
can you try to change /bin/sh at the top of rootstock to /bin/bash and see if
the segfault still

There is always the chance of something crashing, no matter how you fix this

There was another place where memory was being leaked. This was
happening after a register requests, so that over time, after a number
of register requests, Walrus would OOM. The issue was with the
interaction between the CLC and Walrus.

It works again, but not out of the box
It seems the kvm-pxe package install the rom in the wrong directory :
/usr/share/kvm and qemu-kvm seems to search rom images in
/usr/share/qemu
I copied /usr/share/kvm/pxe-e1000.bin to /usr/share/qemu/pxe-e1000.bin
