This is happening with us on Ubuntu 14.04.3 authenticating against ldap
using sssd. I have changed my /etc/init/autofs.conf as recommended by
Ruben (above #43) and it works for me as well.

Did you completely remove or purge samba-common? Can you try running:
sudo apt-get purge samba-common .
