Got a workaround:-
sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock
reboot
sudo apt-get purge samba
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install samba
--
samba install hangs in 'samba.postinst configure'
