Upon further review, I also needed to copy over the make_*.pl scripts as
well... the _list files use some shorthand here and there. Since that's
about half of the package, I've built a PPA with the lucid
(4.7.36ubuntu3) whois compiled under hardy, and it's working well so
far.

Attached is a diff, created by copying *_list from 4.7.36ubuntu3 (lucid)
to the 4.7.24 (hardy) tree. The format looks the same and there were no
real surprises that I saw. I'm not entirely sure how to get from here
to an SRU, but applying this then running make produces a binary that
fixes this

I am still having the issue with the latest Jaunty Beta 9.04 64-bit
Desktop install.
This would seem to me to be a moderate usability due to the fact it can
take upwards of 5-10 minutes to shutdown depending on the system.
In 8.10 the system would never shut down for me. Now it seems to

This is actually correct behavior. The APACHE_RUN_USER variable is set
in /etc/apache2/envvars. If you use apache2ctl instead of apache2, then
you won't get errors. The same is true of the init script.
