Trying to remove the package results in a pink text box appearing on screen asking me to confirm the root password for the mysql install? I tried running 'sudo apt-get update' which tried again to install the package again failed. A second invocation of the command resulted in the same asking for

Public bug reported: Tried removing / purging all mysql-related packages due to earlier problems with installation. Moved contents of /etc/mysql to /etc/mysql_old and attempted install of mysql-server again and I received the installation error that I've just submitted. ProblemType: Package
