Disregard my comment. Adding file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777 to the mount
options solved my problem.

When I connect to a windows share on my Jaunty box, I use:
sudo mount -t cifs -o username=xxx,password=yyy //192.168.xxx.xxx/share
/mnt/share
