Are you able to boot from other cds (i.e. an ubuntu or windows install
cd)?
Is the Mac OS 10.4 cd for x86 targets? If it is for powerpc, then you
need to use qemu-system-ppc or qemu-system-ppc64 instead.

Yes it is a CD for x86. And the same CD works with Virtualbox.
