Public bug reported:

I use etckeeper 0.61ubuntu2 and git 1:1.7.9.5-1 in precise.  "etckeeper
unclean" returns wrong information, in fact, I have never managed for it
to tell me the directory contains uncommited changes.

$ sudo git status
# On branch master
# Changes to be committed:
#   (use "git reset HEAD <file>..." to unstage)
#
#       modified:   .etckeeper
#       deleted:    cups/subscriptions.conf
#
# Changes not staged for commit:

$ sudo etckeeper unclean
