My suspicion is that your issue is not related to the original subject of
this (older) bug.
I wonder:
a.) Does pump work for you where dhcp3 fails?
b.) What wireless chipset you have in your x40. My feeling is that your
problem is more related to the wireless than to the dchp

Since I initiated this bug, I'll comment that the automatic connection
(using dhclient) has worked for me in Karmic. Sorry for not responding
earlier.

Hi I'm having this problem when trying to connect using dhclient on
lucid lynx. I'm also using a thinkpad(x40)
The access point is not encrypted and my router is set up for dhcp, but
the request still times out.

I've had the same problem, but only when the server is dhcp3-server,
then on my laptop I can only receive the dhcp configuration through the
pump application (running Hardy Heron).
