I don't think it's a decision that can be made automatically by the
package, as it depends on each site. I would agree on a loud warning if
this situation is detected, though. Could you file a specific bug about
it perhaps?

For this version of samba, "security = share" is no longer a valid
configuration. Valid values for the "security" parameter are auto, user,
domain or ads.
