You have been subscribed to a public bug: The dhcp client in Karmic Alpha is not connecting automatically. This includes both when the machine starts up before the network switch as well as after hot plugging the ethernet cable.
The expected behavior is like in kde3.5, when the line becomes active again, the network profile settings are tried again automatically. What is happening is that the network stays inactive until dhclient is run manually. There are two ways to get that. One is to move the ethernet cable to another subnet (on another switch). Another way is when the switch or adsl modem is turned on after the machine with karmic has already started to boot. $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu karmic (development branch) Release: 9.10 $ apt-cache policy kde kde: Installed: (none) Candidate: (none) Version table: r...@mini:~# apt-cache policy kdebase kdebase: Installed: (none) Candidate: 4:4.3.1-0ubuntu1 Version table: 4:4.3.1-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://fi.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages ** Affects: dhcp3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: dhcpclient hotplug network -- ethernet network connection not automatically connecting https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/433556 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dhcp3 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
