OpenSolaris (previously working) no longer boots: kernel panics early

Then again I think the one failure I had was spurious (other things
are on that laptop). I've had no subsequent failures using any
combinations of '-vga std', '-smp 2', '-vnc :1', 'boot c'.

Actually I think '-smp 2' is what was causing me trouble. I've had
several successful boots with and without '-vga std', but none with
'-smp 2' under maverick. The host hanging may have been due to
gvncviewer, though I'm not certain.

In natty I was able to install and then boot opensolaris.
In maverick, install worked, but subsequent boot hung the host.
http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Guest_Support_Status mentions using '-vga
std', which I have not yet tried.
