I am currently packaging the latest AQMU for Debian (it should be
uploaded next week).
It should then make its way to Ubuntu (but I can't tell how muh time the
synchronization could take).

The new version is still not available from the repository. Does the
.deb file from sourceforge.net meet to all specifications of Lucid and
it is safe to install it?

I have forwarded your bug report upstream [1].
It has been corrected in upstream's git repository, and will be released
in the upcoming version of aqemu.
