I managed to finally complete the upgrade and believe I've found where the problem was. Part of the upgrade to Lucid Lynx included upgrading MySQL 5.0 to 5.1. I was given the choice of keeping the existing my.cnf or using the default. I wanted to keep my existing configuration. However, in

The logs show that MySQL was being configured at the moment you cancelled the upgrade -- so this does not seem to be an apparmour issue. OTOH, I agree that config changes should be more carefully screened. I am just not sure, right now, on how to do it. -- package mysql-server-5.1
