Is it possible to backport this patch on Lucid?
The server version is still supported and this patch is needed, otherwise slapd
will break Kerberos KDC.
The solution of adding the sleep 1 to the slapd init script is really
odd.

Thanks for the tip about it having been fixed already. The patch from
oneiric applies cleanly to the lucid version so I have added it to my
local package. It seems to work fine. I guess the issue isn't severe
enough to merit SRUing?

In fact, an earlier broken version of the patch was first introduced in
Debian in 2.4.23-3; so this is fixed in natty and above.

Which version of openldap are you looking at? In 2.4.25-1 and above,
there is a service-operational-before-detach patch which should
guarantee that the daemon is listening before detaching.
