Running a process confined and chrooting are typically two different,
mutually-exclusive solutions to the same problem.
The apparmor profile contains mysqld in a similar way that the
traditional chrooting does. There is no reason to chroot mysqld on
Ubuntu if you are using the AppArmor profile.
I extracted the megatec_usb and blazer_usb from the 2.4.1-3ubuntu2 and
tried them using the method in comment 5. No sucess though.

daemon.log from my desktop computer.

I have this same issue, but on Fedora (yes, I realize this is an ubuntu

On Fedora, I have the issue on 5.2 openssh (FC10+) but not on 5.1 (FC9)
If a host is in the hosts file, it connects instantly. If it needs to
check DNS, it takes 15 seconds or more to connect. There's no slowness

Unfortunately I cannot post an mbox, but it seems that you may have
reproduced this successfully.
I'm not too sure what you are asking, but I expect email to not have the
\t or for it to be compacted to a space instead of a tab. This seems to
be done automatically on the gmail server.

I haven't had time to download and try out the karmic live cd yet and I seem
to have gotten it to work by changing the permissions of /dev/null as
another in the bug had mentioned. If I can find time away from the
kids/wife/job to check the karmic release I'll let you know.
