Re: [Bug 834985] Re: package samba-common-bin 2:3.5.8~dfsg-1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: beschadigd bestandssysteem tarbestand - beschadigd pakketarchief
Hello Brian, Thanks for your quick respons. I was abroad so had no time unitl now to try and resolve below issue. I did the sudo apt-get clean in terminal mode but I still get a message that there are 'gebroken pakketten' (=broken packages). The message in dutch is (bold) *De afhankelijkheden van de volgende pakketten konden niet geïnstalleerd worden: linux-image-generic: Depends: linux-image-2.6.38-11-generic maar het is niet geïnstalleerd * translated it says: the following packages could not be installed. It advices to do 'APT-GET INSTALL -f in terminal mode . I did it and got below message (bold). This was also the (error) message I got when the problems started with the packages update a little bit more than a week ago: *anton@ubuntu:~$ apt-get install -f* *E: Kon het vergrendelingsbestand '/var/lib/dpkg/lock' niet openen - open (13: Toegang geweigerd)* *E: Kan de beheersmap (/var/lib/dpkg/) niet vergrendelen. Heeft u beheerdersrechten?* *anton@ubuntu:~$ * It seems it cannot lock the mentioned map or file and asks if I have the rights (permisions) to do so. I get the impression it is not a SAMBA related issue but has something to do with the kernel of linux. I installed xubuntu as asecond OS (still have Windows-XP running on the HP-pavilion too). I hope you can help me. if not I will remove Xubuntu totally and install it again. met vriendelijke groet, Anton van den Hoeven 2011/8/27 Brian Murray br...@ubuntu.com Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue, but the failure can be caused by filesystem or memory corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. If this does not resolve your bug please set its status back to New. [Bug 462169] Re: nmbd dies on startup when network interfaces are not up yet
I'm not entirely certain that this was actually fixed on lucid, despite the changelog entry added to 2:3.4.3-2ubuntu2 ... I look at the package branch at that revision, and it does not install /etc/network/if-up.d/samba. Likewise, now that I see bug #836849 reported, it would appear that what happened was, the file was added, installed into the right place in debian/rules, but not added to debian/samba.files + mkdir -p $(DESTDIR)/etc/network/if-up.d + install -o root -g root debian/samba.if-up $(DESTDIR)/etc/network/if-up.d/samba This just makes it go into $DESTDIR , but it would need to be in debian/samba.files to make it into the package. Later, in a merge w/ Debian, this file *was* added to debian/samba.files So, on a lucid system, smbd is not actually started on ifup. Moving the status of the Lucid task back to Triaged based on this information, and marking bug #836849 as a duplicate of this bug. ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu Lucid) Status: Fix Released = Triaged ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu Lucid) Milestone: lucid-alpha-3 = ubuntu-10.04.4 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462169 Title: nmbd dies on startup when network interfaces are not up yet To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/samba/+bug/462169/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 462169] Re: nmbd dies on startup when network interfaces are not up yet

It should be entirely irrelevant given the current nmbd start condition, and if it's not irrelevant, it's also not reliable because the same thing that triggers nmbd before the interface is really up will also call the ifupdown hooks. And no, bug #836849 is not the same bug. [Bug 828366] Re: Caps lock state of VM (Windows XP using KVM) gets reversed
I need to set up a machine on which to test this, but as SDL+capslock has given us trouble before I wouldn't be surprised if qemu-kvm is the problem. Just to be sure, when this happens, I assume that just hitting caps-lock again does not unset it? On my oneiric system, if I hit caps-lock (which is remapped to control) by itself it doesn't set/unset capslock in the guest, but if hit caps-lock plus some letter (i.e. i wanted to hit ctrl-u), then it does. I can always unset it by hitting capslock-l. ** Also affects: qemu-kvm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/828366 Title: Caps lock state of VM (Windows XP using KVM) gets reversed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu-kvm/+bug/828366/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 838968] Re: static-network-up event does not wait for interfaces to have an address
We also need to protect against ever actually *hitting* the dhclient timeout during normal operation. netcfg and network-manager already do their own dhcp timeout handling, so only ifupdown is still affected. We should raise the default timeout in dhclient, otherwise we just have interfaces that never come up instead of ones that say they're up when they aren't. ** Also affects: isc-dhcp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: isc-dhcp (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: isc-dhcp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: isc-dhcp (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Steve Langasek (vorlon) ** Changed in: isc-dhcp (Ubuntu) Milestone: None = ubuntu-11.10-beta-2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cloud-init in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/838968 Title: static-network-up event does not wait for interfaces to have an address To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/838968/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 836849] Re: Samba starts before static IPs set in network manager
Bug #462169 is about nmbd startup, not smbd startup. Please attach the /etc/smb.conf and /var/log/samba/log.smbd from this system, so we can see exactly what's happening on your system. By default, smbd should start up without error before the interfaces are available, and attach to them when they become available. ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/836849 Title: Samba starts before static IPs set in network manager To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/836849/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 836849] Re: Samba starts before static IPs set in network manager
Ok, after some discussion with Steve it appears this is unrelated to bug #462169, and its only by mistake that /etc/network/if-up.d/samba is even shipped. It would appear that the currently supported way to bind samba to a specific interface is to also change /etc/init/smbd.conf to be start on (local-filesystems and net-device-up IFACE=ethX) So that you can guarantee that it does not start until that specific interface is up and ready. Another option is to use interfaces = ethX instead of binding to a specific IP, so that smbd will just poll that inteface and just work when it does get an IP. Either way, it seems that smbd is doing the right thing in your situation, but your configuration isn't supportable in the generic sense. So unless we're missing something, you probably just need to change /etc/init/smbd.conf to wait for the specific interface. Closing as Invalid. Please feel free to re-open it by changing the status to New if you have more information, or open a new bug report if you feel that this one does not capture your problem appropriately.
