[Bug 1015935] [NEW] SWAT segfaults when trying to view full configuration

2012-06-21 Thread Kai Blin
Public bug reported:

When running swat on a 32bit 12.04 install, swat segfaults when the user
clicks on the Full View button in the configuration menu. This only
happens on the 32bit install, the 64bit install seems fine.

This was reported to upstream under
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8999 but can only be
reproduced with the distro packages.

swat crashes with the following backtrace (sorry for the missing debug
symbols, the samba-dbg package doesn't seem to help gdb getting debug
symbols for swat):

(gdb) bt
#0 0xb72340c0 in ?? ()
#1 0xb7d7923c in _talloc_free () from /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libtalloc.so.2
#2 0x80215875 in smb_iconv_close ()
#3 0x80204d65 in ?? ()
#4 0x802051d8 in smb_iconv_convenience_reinit ()
#5 0x801f2bf5 in init_iconv ()
#6 0x801f2c32 in lazy_initialize_conv ()
#7 0x801f35e5 in convert_string_talloc ()
#8 0x80074c99 in cgi_load_variables ()
#9 0x80071e3c in main ()

A relatively straightforward way to reproduce the crash in gdb is running gdb
swat, and then typing in
GET /viewconfig HTTP/1.1
Authorization: Basic base64 of user:pass

then grab the xsrf and xsrf_time values in the form displayed...

GET /viewconfig?full_view=Full+Viewxsrf=xsrfxsrf_time=xsrf_time HTTP/1.1
Authorization: Basic base64 of user:pass

and the segfault happens.
With the current v3-6-test git HEAD from the samba git, this doesn't happen.
The last time this code was touched upstream was in 2009, so I'm not sure a
code change caused this.

You cannot reproduce the crash if you start swat with -a to skip the
authentication logic, so you need to set up a root password for this to
work.

[Bug 1015941] [NEW] SUDO_USER should be used also when calling with 'vcs commit'

2012-06-21 Thread gizero
Public bug reported:

In the past a patch was submitted to have the unprivileged user calling
'sudo etckeeper' being reported as the commit author instead of root.
This involved using SUDO_USER instead of USER when calling the undelying
VCS command. This appear to be implemented only for 'etckeeper commit'.
My workflow more frequently involves calling 'etckeeper vcs add/commit'
to separate logically different changes and for documentation purpose. I
can try to propose a patch for this but hints are welcome to focus on
the right place to implement such a change. Reporting here because I use
etckeeper (0.52) with Ubuntu server (11.04) but looking at upstream
code, no related changes result in the repo.

Hi Sithu

Looks like you might have a problem upgrading due to a version which has
been installed from a PPA:

  mysql-client-5.5 5.5.21-2~ppa1~oneiric

The mysql-5.5 package in precise supports upgrade from earlier versions
of mysql (5.1).

I would recommend you un-install this version first and then try to re-
install the version from the main Ubuntu archive.

Thanks

[Bug 1001354] Re: package mysql-server-5.5 5.5.22-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 on clean installation

2012-06-21 Thread James Page
I think its something todo with:

dpkg: warning: files list file for package `mysql-server-core-5.5'
missing, assuming package has no files currently installed.

dpkg: warning: files list file for package `mysql-client-core-5.5'
missing, assuming package has no files currently installed.

The mysqld binary is provided by mysql-server-core-5.5 - and it appears
to be missing when mysql-server is configured which is not correct.

It looks like you system might be in an inconsistent state (might be
todo with find / -iname ‘mysql*’ -exec rm -rf {} \; if you ran it -
not good advice IMHO).

Please try reinstalling the effected packages:

 sudo apt-get install --reinstall mysql-server-core-5.5 mysql-client-
core-5.5

Hopefully this will resolve your issue.

Marking 'Invalid' as I think its because of the actions you took to un-
install previously.

Thanks

[Bug 1003481] Re: package mysql-server-5.5 5.5.22-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-06-21 Thread James Page
Hi Ken

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug in Ubuntu.

Looks like the bootstrap part of the install failed.

As you can see from the error messages in #2 it looks like mysql was
unable to create files in /tmp - this was blocked by apparmor.

Is your /tmp folder a standard directory? Looks like it might be a
symbolic link to /media/B1/tmp which would be the cause of the problem.

You can either update the apparmor profile or switch /tmp back to be a
normal mountpoint if this is the case.

Marking 'Invalid'. If /tmp is a standard directory and not a symbolic
link please set back to 'New' and tell us a bit more about your install.

Thanks

[Bug 1016018] [NEW] package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.62-0ubuntu0.10.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-06-21 Thread Rashford Blake
Public bug reported:

Carried out the usual security package updates through Ubuntu Xfce GUI
Package Manager. During the update procedure I noticed the update
process included a mysql-server upgrade and a notification informing
this could take some time. After two days and two nights, I realized
this was taking far longer than expected and thought something must be
wrong.

The CPU, memory and network activity was monitored using GUI System
Monitor which showed a high usage on one of the CPU cores (Intel i3 -
3.10GHz). This would change to a different core overtime.

After rebooting I logged into a terminal console and proceeded with the
command line security package update using the 'sudo apt-get update'
command, which started successfully. However at the end it did report an
issue with dpkg of mysql-server and suggested the following command to
run to resolve the issue:

dpkg --configure -a

Hi Andri,

Thank you very much for your bug report! I've been trying to reproduce
it to no avail, it looks like either your hosts file or your DNS is not
honoring ::1 requests (IPV6 for localhost).

Could you please check that your /etc/hosts has the proper IPV6 entries?
Could you paste here your /etc/hosts as well?

# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters

Many thanks,

[Bug 1015405] Re: ClamAV error: CL_EFORMAT: Bad format or broken data

2012-06-21 Thread Marc Cluet
Hi Dagaroth,

Thank you very much for your report!

This can be caused by an invalid main.cvd file or one that is broken in
half after an unsuccessful update.

Your best course of action is to delete the database definitions at
/var/lib/clamav and run freshclam so it refreshes all the files again.

Hope this solves your problem!

Hi Sabari,

First of all don't panic! Although I hope you have a backup of your
database somewhere :)

120618 16:23:09 [ERROR] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Can't find file: './mysql/user.frm'
(errno: 13)
ERROR: 1017 Can't find file: './mysql/user.frm' (errno: 13)

Looks like the table user.frm got somehow deleted or corrupted.

In order to correct this

1. Shut down MySQL Server
2. try to run myisamchk on the /var/lib/mysql/mysql directory (where the mysql
database is) and see if you can fix any corruption
3. If that fails try to recover from your last backup

Best of lucks!

[Bug 1011925] Re: cpu soft lockup in Centos guest using KVM 0.14.1

2012-06-21 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for the clarification. In that case, while it could be a bug in
virtio (since gzip is locking up) or the qemu timer, it would seem most
likely to be a bug in the centos kernel. lockup messages like that are
quite common on bare metal as well. Is the centos image uptodate? Is
this very reproducible - any particular command you can issue on the
guest to always make it happen?

[Bug 1015390] Re: package bind9 1:9.7.0.dfsg.P1-1ubuntu0.5 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-06-21 Thread Marc Cluet
Hi Selva,

Thank you very much for your bug report.

This bug looks like it's caused by bind9

#
 * Starting domain name service... bind9
   ...fail!
invoke-rc.d: initscript bind9, action start failed.

The only reasons why bind9 wouldn't start are

a) Misconfiguration of directory permissions
b) Misconfiguration of named.conf

Neither of this are caused by packaging, but I'd recommend you to start
reading the logs and see which configuration line is guilty for this, if
you need further help you can try other support options like going to
the irc channel #ubuntu-server on Freenode or joining the ubuntu-server

# /etc/nsswitch.conf
#
# Example configuration of GNU Name Service Switch functionality.
# If you have the `glibc-doc-reference' and `info' packages installed, try:
# `info libc Name Service Switch' for information about this file.

hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4
networks: files

protocols: db files
services: db files
ethers: db files
rpc:db files

netgroup: nis

As far as I see there is no syntax error within nsswitch! What ever this
error message means: autofs doesn't work as expected:

/etc/auto.master:
/media/cifs /etc/auto.cifs

/etc/auto.cifs:
box -fstype=cifs,rw,credentials=/etc/fritz.cred
://192.168.6.1/FRITZ.NAS

Changing to /media/box:
# cd /media/box
bash: cd: /media/box: No such file or directory

While
# mkdir /media/box
# mount -t cifs -o rw,credentials=/etc/fritz.cred //192.168.6.1/FRITZ.NAS
/media/box

works (if autofs was terminated before. Else you'll get the error: mkdir:
cannot create directory `box': Permission denied):

[Bug 1015058] Re: package dovecot-ldap 1:2.0.19-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-06-21 Thread James Page
Hi Ilyas

It looks like '/etc/dovecot/' is missing; I would recommend that you
purge all dovecot packages and re-install

   sudo apt-get purge dovecot-\*

You should then be able to re-install OK.

Marking 'Incomplete' - if this resolves your issue please set to
'Invalid' - if not then set back to 'New'.

Thanks

2012-06-21 Thread Chuck Short
So I was able to reproduce this in Essex but not folsom. Im thinking
that the following commit fixed this:

https://github.com/openstack/nova/commit/ae878fc8b9761d099a4145617e4a48cbeb390623

However I dont think its apprioate to backport this fix. So im looking
at alternatives.

[Bug 1016111] [NEW] Passing an incorrect zone name to euca-create-volume results in a volume stuck in the creating state

2012-06-21 Thread Andrew Glen-Young
Public bug reported:

What happens:

I have two regions and one availability zone (AZ) for my Essex cluster.
When creating a volume I accidentally used the region name instead of
the AZ name. This resulted in a volume being stuck in the creating
state which I cannot delete.

What I expect:

I expect two things:
 1. The volume creation should fail (it currently does)
 2. The volume to go into an error state (it does not currently do this)

Reasoning:

Having the volume go into an error state informs the user that there was
a problem and does not leave them wondering if they should wait longer
in case the command hasn't completed.

Steps to reproduce:

 1. user@laptop:~$ euca-create-volume -s 2 # command requires a zone
These required options are missing: zone

 2. user@laptop:~$ euca-create-volume -s 2 -z lcy-2 # accidentally pass a
non-existant zone name

Hi smacintyre,

Thank you very much for submitting this bug report.

Looks like for some reason the package php5-common wasn't installed or
it's not showing on your PHPInstalledModules.txt file.

If you don't mind I'd need you to check that the package is installed,
it is a dependency for libapache2-mod-php5 and the error it's giving
means that this package wasn't installed before trying to install
libapache2-mod-php5.

Can you try to run apt-get -f install and see what does it say? If the
error persists could you please provide the full apt-get log and mark
the bug again as New so it can be reviewed.

Thank you very much for your time!

2012-06-21 Thread Marc Cluet
Hi Vikram,

Thank you so much for taking the time to fill this bug report.

This looks to me like a debconf error when part of a downloaded package
can't succeed for some reason, I know the error is a bit obscure but it
has happened before as noted by question #166815
(https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+question/166815)

Could you please try to run

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

See if that helps, otherwise try

sudo apt-get -f install

[Bug 1013826] Re: package mysql-server-5.5 5.5.24-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-06-21 Thread Marc Cluet
Hi Ukmeterman,

Thank you very much for submitting your bug report to Ubuntu!

Looks like for some reason part of the apparmor profile for mysql didn't
install properly in your case.

1. Could you check that /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/mysql exists? If so
it should have 0644 permissions (-rw-r--r--)

If it doesn't exist it's an issue related to the apparmor package not
upgrading properly, try to reinstall or upgrade it.

[Bug 1015369] Re: IOError: [Errno 32] Broken pipe on start when many lists are present

2012-06-21 Thread Scott Moser
As Ryan said, this is low priority.
I can see 2 potential fixes:
a.) change list_lists to handle the closed pipe correctly and exit without
trace
 b.) change 'grep -q' to 'grep /dev/null'

Additionally:
 * this also affects debian, and carrying ubuntu delta for this change doesn't
seem to make much sense
 * list_lists is not present in mailman upstream 3.0 line.

Ryan,
Given the above, if you'd like to see this fixed, could you report the bug to
debian [1]? and then link that bug to this?
I personally think that the 'grep /dev/null' is a sufficient fix given the
fact that list_lists is gone in upstream.

Thank you very much for your bug report.

This is indeed an existing problem in nova, could reproduce easily.
Don't know if it's an architectural decision or if it's a bug per se.

Handling over to Chuck Short for further analysis.

[Bug 1015828] Re: package clamav-milter 0.97.5+dfsg-1ubuntu0.12.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-06-21 Thread Scott Moser
I was unable to reproduce this with:
$ sudo apt-get update
$ rv=0.97.3+dfsg-2.1ubuntu1;
$ sudo apt-get install clamav-{milter,base,freshclam,daemon}=$rv --assume-yes
$ sudo apt-get install clamav-milter

The reporter shows upgrade from '0.97.5+dfsg-1ubuntu0.12.04.1' to
'0.97.5+dfsg-1ubuntu0.12.04.2'.
The dpkg terminal log shows:
 Setting up clamav-freshclam (0.97.5+dfsg-1ubuntu0.12.04.2) ...
 Setting up clamav-daemon (0.97.5+dfsg-1ubuntu0.12.04.2) ...
 Setting up clamav-milter (0.97.5+dfsg-1ubuntu0.12.04.1) ...

Note, the clamav-milter is of 12.04.1.

Perhaps this is a result of an update being done when archive was in a
strange state? (ie, why would the upgrade have pulled in 12.04.1 and for
clamav-milter).

I was not able to reproduce. William, is there any information about
your system you think might be useful?

It appears the DpkgTerminalLog.gz is somehow missing some data.
I have in my test output:

2012-06-21 Thread Scott Moser
reading clamav-base.postinst, it seems that on new install, it tries to add
user.
It does not check if the user exists first.

So this is either expected failure, in order to avoid re-using an unexpected
ID, or clamav should not create the user if it already exists.
http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/securing-debian-howto/ch9.en.html#s-bpp-lower-privs

[Bug 1015828] Re: package clamav-milter 0.97.5+dfsg-1ubuntu0.12.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-06-21 Thread Marc Deslauriers
There was a regression in 0.97.5+dfsg-1ubuntu0.12.04.1 that prevented it
from being installed properly on new installations. 0.97.5+dfsg-
1ubuntu0.12.04.2 was quickly released to solve the issue. You may need
to uninstall clamav completely before attempting to install 0.97.5+dfsg-
1ubuntu0.12.04.2.

Although, looking at the DpkgTerminalLog, that may not be the exact
issue you are having, as it would seem clamav-milter is failing to
start. I'm not quite sure why it didn't get updated at the same time the
other packages did.

Could you try removing clamav completely and reinstaling it?

I suspect this might be an artifact of the clamav-base configure bug that was

[Bug 1013782] Re: Stop/start a KVM instance with volumes attached produces an error state

In LibvirtConnection.attach_volume() we do:

mount_device = mountpoint.rpartition(/)[2]
xml = self.volume_driver_method('connect_volume',
connection_info,
mount_device)

in _prepare_xml_info() we do:

mountpoint = vol['mount_device']
xml = self.volume_driver_method('connect_volume',
connection_info,
mountpoint)

Pretty confident we just need to do:

 -mountpoint = vol['mount_device']
 +mountpoint = vol['mount_device'].rpartition(/)[2]

[Blueprint servercloud-q-server-benchmark-and-performance] ARM Server Benchmarking and Performance

2012-06-21 Thread Craig Magina
Blueprint changed by Craig Magina:

Whiteboard changed:
I'm deferring this due to no workitems defined. -robbiew

  From Etherpad:

  Workload tests:
   - bzr branch lp:server-workload-testing
   - Currently done and maintained by Canonical
   - Linaro could help getting it to work across the ARM boards available there
as well as with LAVA
  openssl: openssl-test? gnu-tls?
  ARM Workload:
   - Linaro is looking at extracting the power consumed when stressing the
board support
   - It'd be useful to benchmark not only the test results, but the power that
was consumed during the test run
Areas to investigate while checking for performance:
   - Not that clear at the moment
   - Generally looking at the usual test cases/benchmarks for a start
   - One way would be to get feedback from the hw vendors to understand what
would be the priority
  ACTION:
[rsalveti] Make sure we have a session at Linaro Connect to cover power usage
at the ARM boards during test case executions
  IO/Storage: Ceph, Swift, Gluster?
Areas of focus on feature/functional side:
   - KVM
   - LXC
   - OpenMPI
Calxeda is interested in OpenMPI performance/testing.
  From P:
As actual ARM server hardware begins to enter the marketplace, a
standardized way to test and benchmark performance must be developed and run
on all active platforms we support for ARM server.

  ACTIONS:
  - Automate testing [explore PTS documentation about batch-run options]
  - Find an IPV6 testing tool
  - Add a test for Membase
  - Add a test for Hadoop and other workloads
  - Explore stress/load testing (memtester, stress, kernel build test, netperf,
unix bench)
  - Test on real hardware when available
  - Compare P test results against O.
  - AHCI testing
  - Investigate PTS logging sensor data [Run any test(s) with MONITOR=all

documentation... or run phoronix-test-suite system-sensors to see all
supported/unsupported sensors. Try latest PTS release for latest sensor

[Blueprint servercloud-q-juju-charm-unit-tests] Juju Charm Unit Tests

2012-06-21 Thread Antonio Rosales
Blueprint changed by Antonio Rosales:

Whiteboard changed:
  charm unit tests

  recap... we automatically run:
    - installation
    - graph test
  we'd like to additionally run
    - charm tests

read the spec lp:juju in the docs dir... look for something like
charmtests.rst

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~clint-fewbar/juju/charm-tests-spec/view/head:/source/charm-tests.rst

  policy stuff?
tests required? just encouraged for now

  additional testing plugins possible:
    - nessus, etc against the running service
    - app-armor complain against running service
    - lint-type 'charm proof'
    - upgrade-charm tests
    - testing spread with add-unit
    - coverage ???
    - watching relation settings??

please put all projects in one of:
  charm-tools
  juju-jitsu
  charms
  juju

environments - include all of them, including MAAS

  support MAAS, other distro needs

enable manual kicks from ~charmers (charmbot, but we prob wanna do that
through openid over the web) - parameterized jenkins tests, both
official and against specific distro needs

charmtester is a *charm* in the charm store - test my custom stack of
services is readily doable (contributions are welcome as always)

jenkins file bugs when charms fail (close them when they pass again?)
try for maintainer notification through launchpad

how do long-failing tests relate to series freeze???

coverage tools possible? check out next cycle

load testing for individual charms? for example, siege all charms with
  http interface

scale testing? weekly large runs? really a _juju_ test and less a
  _charm_ test

[Blueprint servercloud-q-juju-charms-release-policy] Clarifying Charm Store policy around Ubuntu Releases

2012-06-21 Thread Antonio Rosales
Blueprint changed by Antonio Rosales:

Whiteboard changed:
+ Topics:
+ * When do we advance the charms dev focus to each new release of Ubuntu
+ * Should we auto backport and forward port charms, if so, how?
+
  Charm Store Policy

  - This is a living policy, we will not try to get it perfect, so trying to
get it perfect is not useful, we need to be agile and revisit our policies on a
regular basis.
  - Charm Store doesn't freeze
  - I want stability. I want a single place to collaborate around.

  backports?
  charm store submissions?
When to open the next release series?

  Where we've been doing:

  - Default series is LTS with juju deploy foo

Where do we want to go with it:

  - Default series should be LTS with juju deploy foo
  - Search should default to the best possible solution first.

  what do we mean by:
   - open - able to push to this series
   - development focus - default series to build against?

dev focus with release (at beta?)
but insure lts gets as much focus as we can

  one approach
  - commit to latest dev focus
  - try to test on previous release
  - try to test further back
  two things to do this:
  - blacklisting for tests
  - better automated testing

also start forward testing as soon as alpha1 is available

perhaps charm browser can show test status for each charm... _per
  release_

security is an aspect of this when considering preventing, allowing, or
automating back-ports
  maybe don't auto-backport...
  put on the maintainer's shoulders?
what about use tags?... auto-backport only tagged appropriately?
(kinda like pockets security, etc etc)

Tags for charms to denote default behavior

perhaps the only valid tags we can use are ones that can be
  automatically tested?

  we digress...

we branched too late for precise release
  next time... ?
    - q the dev focus on beta1 day?
    - what to do with backports?

hard problem, we don't have solid answers...
maybe we just need to make a decision and run with it

follow the distro model, but lag by three months
  adjust on demand

Dev focus to stay on LTS (precise) and push promulgated charms forward
  and test forward

  Welcome to Ubuntu Developer Summit!

  Avoiding charm store bitrot...

  automated testing

  - Assign maintainers to charms (metadata.yaml)
  - Failing tests for period of time.
    - autofiles bug (puts in the Big List to be unpromulgated)

Policy would be to not promote charm series until it's all green (i.e.,
  no critical bugs)

  Simplify writing tests:

make it easy for users to run their own tests... merge 'charm test' in
  charm tools

[Bug 1010110] Re: check_ntp_time sometimes report Offset unknown

2012-06-21 Thread Clint Byrum
Hello Dominique, or anyone else affected,

Accepted nagios-plugins into hardy-proposed. The package will build now
and be available in a few hours. Please help us by testing this new
package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for
documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us
getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes
the bug for you please change the bug tag from verification-needed to
verification-done. If it does not, change the tag to verification-
failed. In either case details of your testing will help us make a
better decision. Further information regarding the verification process
can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification
. Thank you in advance!
