[Bug 155947] Re: libnss-ldap: calls to initgroups() causes boot to hang when using 'bind_policy hard'

2008-08-28 Thread Kevin Waddell
Is there a fix for this for 7.10? When the LDAP server is down, it hangs
on klog etc. I have bind_policy soft set and it still hangs. Adding
nss_initgroups_ignoreusers to my ldap.conf seems to be a workaround.

2008-08-28 Thread Stefan Lesicnik
Thanks Theirry,

I dont think this is worth the SRU as it causes no major problems and
shouldnt happen under normal circumstances. To correct the problem - the
user can just

touch /etc/nagios2/apache2.conf

and the purge will complete.

2008-08-28 Thread Thierry Carrez
I agree with you. This is more a bug in a corner case that normal use
shouldn't hit, with an easy workaround, so it's probably not worthy of
an SRU. I'm closing it as Won't Fix, anyone wishing to try to push it
through SRU : feel free to reopen it.

[Bug 262264] [NEW] Fails to join a domain: Unknown pam configuration

2008-08-28 Thread Thierry Carrez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: likewise-open

Using the new likewise-open 4.1.0.2956-0ubuntu1 on intrepid, trying to
join a domain results in :

---
Joining to AD Domain: test-ad.company.com
With Computer DNS Name: intrepid-test.test-ad.company.com

Error: Unknown pam configuration [code 0x00080035]

The likewise PAM module cannot be configured for the login service. Either this
service is unprotected (does not require a valid password for access), or it is
using a pam module that this program is unfamiliar with. Please email Likewise
technical support and include a copy of /etc/pam.conf or /etc/pam.d.
---

Recent PAM updates in intrepid resulted in a PAM configuration that
likewise-open doesn't know how to manipulate. Likewise-open needs to be
modified to be able to handle the new format, or to make use of the new
PAM-file-updating-tools that were released for Intrepid.

Note that this will also affect the previous version of Likewise-Open,
as it is more an incompatibility between likewise-open and the new PAM
packages than a specific problem in 4.1.0.2956.

[Bug 262291] Re: hardy: update samba to 3.0.32

2008-08-28 Thread jmedina
And most important, that but is about samba 3.2.x

==
== Subject: Wrong permissions of group_mapping.ldb
==
== CVE ID#: CVE-2008-3789
==
== Versions:Samba 3.2.0 - 3.2.2 (inclusive)

and I dont think 3.2 will be in hardy because 3.2 has a new licence, this needs
extra work, and I think 3.0.28 it is enough.
I think this bug can be closed, isn't it, because it doesnt apply to samba
version on hardy.

Sure there'll be no samba 3.2 in hardy - I didn't mean that.
And maybe it's the wrong place for a discussion, but couls you explain the
policy (maybe with a link to an explanation?) why hardy NOT gets the newest

[Bug 249881] Re: Hardy slapd server is not supporting sasl/external authentication

2008-08-28 Thread Mathias Gug
I was able to get the EXTERNAL mechanism listed:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ldapsearch -x -H ldaps:/// -b -LLL -s base
supportedSASLMechanisms
dn:
supportedSASLMechanisms: LOGIN
supportedSASLMechanisms: PLAIN
supportedSASLMechanisms: DIGEST-MD5
supportedSASLMechanisms: NTLM
supportedSASLMechanisms: CRAM-MD5
supportedSASLMechanisms: EXTERNAL

I've used the following options in slapd.conf:

TLSCACertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/cacert.pem
TLSCertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/t-sasl.vmnet.pem
TLSCertificateKeyFile /etc/ssl/private/t-sasl.vmnet.key
TLSVerifyClient demand

and the following options in .ldaprc:

TLS_CACERT /etc/ssl/certs/cacert.pem
TLS_CERT /home/mathiaz/t-client.vmnet.pem
TLS_KEY /home/mathiaz/t-client.vmnet.key

I've use a properly PKI to create the certificates:

cacert.pem is a self-signed certifcate. t-sasl.vmnet.pem and
t-client.vmnet.pem are certificate signed by cacert.pem.

Using a self-signed certificate on the client won't work (ldapsearch
doesn't send self-signed certificates).

[Bug 84782] Re: slow samba transfer speed to/from windows machines

2008-08-28 Thread Chris
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 46081 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/46081

I too am having the same issues. 1 computer running Ubuntu Server 8.04,
with ubuntu-desktop installed over top for gui purposes, and one running
xp SP2.

On the Ubuntu machines, I can get speeds of 1.6-1.8 MEGABYTES down from
the internet..

But transffering files from Ubuntu to Windows, or vice versa, I'm
getting around 350KILOBYTES if I'm lucky. I've tried every combination
of socket options that I could think of, and have seen no increase in
speed. I'm using the onboard RTL8100C nic..

I checked out my samba logs a bunch, and see this: [2008/08/28 22:15:53, 0]
auth/auth_util.c:create_builtin_users(758)
  create_builtin_users: Failed to create Users

A bunch of times, but it does not appear to effect my ability to connect
to and browse my windows machines..

If anyone has made any progress on this, I'd love to know.

Something interesting to note:

I was playing around with virtual box, and couldn't get the builtin
drive sharing to work with a windows xp guest operating system, so I
mounted my share in windows using samba..and on the SAME computer, I was
experiencing the dismal speeds that I see going from my Ubuntu machine
to my external windows machine. When I did get the virtual box drive
sharing working again, speeds increased drastically. Something that was
going to take 35 minutes to transfer took 2.
