[Bug 216358] Re: Samba crashes repeatedly to assert_uid

2008-10-06 Thread berni123
Steve,

this could not be normal - in /etc/security/limits.conf there is no limit
configured, and I dont know,
but could it be unlimited as default in Ubuntuty Hardy ?

Commenting out panic-action does not solve the problem, because it only
prevents the mail
and not the action. smbd still crashes and the users got the windows messages
that their
network drives are not available.

Just a few minuts ago I had crashes after crashes and have to shut down samba
and restart it,
so I commented out the panic action but it smbs still crashes.

Memtest shows now error with the memory and the rest of the system is running
fine.
There is still this strange samba behavior.

[Bug 278933] [NEW] Guest samba share stops working when winbind is installed

2008-10-06 Thread rivode
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

I have a Samba share configured to provide read/write access without
authenticating. This worked fine until I installed Wine. I removed
wine, and it worked fine again. I narrowed the offending package down
to winbind.

The share is configured like this:

[rwshare]
path = /data/sharerw
read only = no
writeable = yes
guest only = yes
guest ok = yes
create mask = 0664
directory mask = 0775
force group = download

I also have a read-only share, which works fine regardless of whether
winbind is installed:

[share]
comment = General share
path = /data/Share
read only = yes
guest only = yes
guest ok = yes

Upon trying to connect to the read-write share with an fstab entry, I
get this on the (Debian) client:

Anonymous login successful
3505: tree connect failed: ERRHRD - ERRgeneral (General failure.)
SMB connection failed

and using smbclient //localhost/rwshare -U%:

Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.28a]
tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_GROUP

and this was in /var/log/samba/log.127.0.0.1:

and /var/log/samba/log.winbindd:

[Bug 229654] Re: muliples crashes after 6.06 to 8.04 x64 upgrade

2008-10-06 Thread berni123
I have a similar stack trace maybe related to this, happens often a
network user tries to access a network device, he got the windows
messages that the network share is not available, smbd crashes and after
that, the user can access the network share. But from time to time, the
crash continues and only a complee restart of samba has to be done.

[Bug 277447] Re: script failed: could not execute external program

2008-10-06 Thread Ralf Hildebrandt
openvpn is started like this:

#!/bin/sh
cd `dirname $0`
/usr/sbin/openvpn --up ./client.sh up --down ./client.sh down --config
client.conf

Using absolute pathnames didn't change anything.

client.conf:
===

client
dev tun
proto udp
remote server.example.com 1194
resolv-retry infinite
nobind
persist-key
persist-tun
pkcs12 client.p12
ns-cert-type server
comp-lzo
verb 3
auth-user-pass
reneg-sec 0
auth-nocache
mute-replay-warnings

setting the script-security parameter didn't have any effect, I tried
values 0-3, no change, just like the upstream bugreport indicates.

[Bug 278784] Re: openvpn configuration with token (pkcs11 provider) blocks the boot

2008-10-06 Thread Thierry Carrez
I agree the boot should not be blocked, an option to cancel the start of
that VPN should be provided.

I'll have a look to see if I find an easy fix, I may need your help to
test it though, since I don't own such a token ;)

About the autostart feature, note that you can configure which
configurations should be autostarted at boot through the
/etc/default/openvpn file.

[Bug 278784] Re: openvpn configuration with token (pkcs11 provider) blocks the boot

I found the autostart config in the end - it's just not possible to
deactivate it while updating Ubuntu :)

No problem to test any fixes, just leave me a note here or by email.

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2008-10-06 Thread Steve Langasek
marking 'wontfix' for gvfs in hardy; the gvfs side of this requires UI

[Bug 275608] Re: nm-openvpn swaps ca-cert and user-cert labels when using Passwords with Certificate (TLS) mode

2008-10-06 Thread Thierry Carrez
0.7~~svn20080928t225540-0ubuntu1 revamped that panel. The issue still
exists, the patch needs adaptation.

Reproduction:
Create a new VPN. Select authentication type Certificate (TLS). Select :
User Certificate: user.crt
Certificate password: (empty)
CA Certificate: ca.crt
Private key: user.key
Switch to authentication type Password with certificate(TLS). You now get:
User name: (current user name)
Password: (empty)
CA Certificate: user.crt
User Certificate: ca.crt
Certificate password: (empty)
Private Key: user.key

Since a password box now appears just below User certificate,
inverting labels is confusing (the password box applies the user
certificate, not the CA one). The proposed patch is to inverse file
selectors rather than labels, resulting in :

User name: (current user name)
Password: (empty)
CA Certificate: ca.crt
User Certificate: user.crt
Certificate password: (empty)
Private Key: user.key

which is correct.

2008-10-06 Thread Steve Langasek

No, it is not. This bug is about incompatibility with servers that
negotiate weak password encryption for connections, and it has been
worked around by a change to the default settings for samba in Ubuntu
8.04. If your problem was fixed by the patch from bug #207072, then
your problem is unrelated to this bug report.

[Bug 227592] Re: openssh-server install does not create privilege separation user sshd

2008-10-06 Thread Miguel Di Ciurcio Filho
I have the same problem.

adduser will fail but it will not report it. Digging into the scripts
I've found this in /var/lib/dpkg/info/openssh-server.postinst:

setup_sshd_user() {
if ! getent passwd sshd /dev/null; then
adduser --quiet --system --no-create-home --home /var/run/sshd
--shell /usr/sbin/nologin sshd
fi
}

When NIS is running, I manually ran the adduser command above and no
error is printed out nor an error status is returned, $? is zero.
Changing the command and removing the --quiet parameter:

friends:~# adduser --system --no-create-home --home /var/run/sshd --shell
/usr/sbin/nologin sshd
The system user `sshd' already exists. Exiting.
friends:~# echo $?
0

So I had to stop NIS and then run adduser again.
friends:~# adduser --system --no-create-home --home /var/run/sshd --shell
/usr/sbin/nologin sshd
Adding system user `sshd' (UID 111) ...
Adding new user `sshd' (UID 111) with group `nogroup' ...

I'm rebuilding the package with the gentoo proposed patch and it seems
to be in the good direction:

checking for sin6_scope_id in struct sockaddr_in6... yes
checking for in6_pktinfo... yes
checking for struct if_laddrreq... no

I patched the source with the patch, ran debian/rules autofiles and then
re-copied the config.sub and config.guess files from the virgin
source tree for ./configure to work correctly.

I'll try the builded package once it is compiled.

[Bug 279316] [NEW] SRU for bind9 to 9.4.2.dfsg.P2 on hardy

2008-10-06 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bind9

This update is an upstream microversion update that fixes bugs #252675. ISC
has described this update as:
This is the SECOND security patch for BIND 9.4.2, addressing performance and
stability issues in BIND 9.4.2-P1. Key features are as follows:

- performance improvement over the P1 releases, namely
+ significantly remedying the port allocation issues
+ allowing TCP queries and zone transfers while issuing as many
  outstanding UDP queries as possible
+ additional security of port randomization at the same level as P1

In addition to the above, this update includes fixes for bug #257682
(compile dig with -DDIG_SIGCHASE) and an apparmor addition to allow
access to /var/log/named

The apparmor policy and dig changes have minimal regression potential.
The upstream upgrade to P2 is required for for high volume sites, as
performance regressions were introduced in the security update for
CVE-2008-1447 in these circumstances.

Intrepid has these updates in the 9.5.0 P2 series

There is no practical test case for the performance regression, other than
using it in a very high volume capacity. Test case for dig:
% dig +sigchase +dnssec DS fugue.se.
Invalid option: +sigchase

Lamont, can you comment on the regression potential for this update?

[Bug 279127] [NEW] Corrupted screen in Intrepid server installer

You have been subscribed to a public bug by Nick Barcet (nijaba):

Right after the partitioner runs on the Intrepid server installer, a
screen comes up that is missing some data. It appears that string format
codes are showing instead. Problems specifically are:

- The '0' showing in the left column about half way down.
- The two %s format codes in each of the two RAID lines

I've seen this exact screen during several installs so it should be
fairly easy to reproduce. See attached screenshot.

Fedora 9 has the same problems, but still no clear solution. Looking at the
Gentoo Patch from the first link, it kind of a hack.

[Bug 249824] Re: [intrepid] bind9/named IPv6 unusable

2008-10-06 Thread malaiwah
I wish I had tried this before:

dpkg -i libisc44_9.5.0.dfsg.P2-1ubuntu2_i386.deb

recompiled with --disable-getifaddrs (or --enable-getifaddrs=no) work no
problem; I thought re-installing only the bind9 package was fine, but
the changes (that are occuring in lib/unix/net.c when we disable
getifaddrs) are only installed on the system when re-installing the
libisc44 package.

My BIND9 server now listens over IPv6 connections under Intrepid.
