[Bug 289470] Re: open-iscsi user-space does not match kernel module version

2008-10-27 Thread Mathias Gug
Dropping the importance. The option to display all active sessions and
connections doesn't work but open-iscsi is working in intrepid (iscsi
block devices can be created, mounted and files created on the
initiator). Not release critical.

Seems like a good candidate for a SRU.

[Bug 289470] Re: open-iscsi user-space does not match kernel module version

2008-10-27 Thread Daniel Hasler
My observation is, that iscsi is working as long as I have only one
session to one target. But as soon as I have multiple sessions, iscsid
will overwrite my first session, bringing down all iscsi sessions. This
is due to the same reasons iscsiadm is not able to list all my sessions.

Only resolution for me was to compile open-iscsi 870rc3 and to replace
iscsid and iscsiadm.

[Bug 278933] Re: Guest samba share stops working when winbind is installed

2008-10-27 Thread Thierry Carrez
I fail to reproduce this. Same versions installed, same share config, I
manage to access the share with or without winbind installed.

Here is what I did:
- Install samba, pushed share config to /etc/samba/smb.conf, restarted and
checked I could access the share ok
- Install Wine, tried accessing the shares just after that : ok
- Restart samba, try access the shares : ok
- Reboot, try access the share : ok

I must be missing something, could you attach a minimal (but complete)
smb.conf that allows you to reproduce the issue ? Did you configure any
other file ?

[Bug 114438] [NEW] Permissions for ldapi:// socket are too restrictive

2008-10-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug by Martin Pitt (pitti):

On dapper i386, slapd creates the ldapi:// socket with

srwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 2007-05-03 19:24 /var/run/ldapi

So only root processes can communicate with slapd via the unix socket.
After setting it to

srwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 2007-05-03 19:33 /var/run/ldapi

libnss-ldap et.al. work properly. I found this thread on the openldap mailing
list:
http://www.openldap.org/lists/openldap-software/200502/msg00176.html

I fixed it here by adding these three lines right after start_slapd and
start_slurpd in my /etc/init.d/slapd file:

if [ -S /var/run/ldapi ]; then
chmod a+rwx /var/run/ldapi
fi

Ciao

[Bug 222003] Re: Can't contact LDAP server

2008-10-27 Thread Mathias Gug
Are you using a self-signed certificate?

Please note that starting from hardy (8.04) openldap is using gnutls
instead of openssl, which is much more strict about certificates. Make
sure that you're *not* using self certificates and that *all* the CA
certificates are available on the client system.

1.) Configure libnss-ldap on a Linux Client to use LDAP as NSS Source
for group, passwd and shadow

2.) On the server try this config:

-- start --
databaseldap
suffix dc=example,dc=org
uri ldap://realldapserver.example.org;
overlay rwm
rwm-rewriteEngine on
rwm-normalize-mapped-attrs yes

rwm-map attribute cn *
rwm-map attribute uid *
rwm-map attribute uidnumber *
rwm-map attribute loginshell *
rwm-map attribute gidnumber *
rwm-map attribute userpassword *
rwm-map attribute gecos *
rwm-map attribute shadowlastchange *
rwm-map attribute shadowexpire *
rwm-map attribute homedirectory *
rwm-map attribute shadowMin *
rwm-map attribute shadowMax *
rwm-map attribute shadowWarning *
rwm-map attribute shadowInactive *
rwm-map attribute shadowFlag *
rwm-map attribute memberUid *
rwm-map attribute uniqueMember *
rwm-map attribute description *
rwm-map attribute sn *
rwm-map attribute givenname *
rwm-map attribute mail *
rwm-map attribute *
-- end --

all other attributes are hidden ( objectclass attribute inclusive
;-(( ).

The nss ldap client is now unable to find a user since the ldap
filter ((uid=xyz)(objectclass=posixaccount)) allways returns null
entries.

If you comment out the last line ( rwm-map attribute * ) then
everything works OK, but all attributes are delivered to the
client! We have more attributes on the realldapserver but we only
want to provide the attributes needed for nss.

I have compiled the version 2.4.12 from source and the bug is gone. So I
think it would be nice to backport the patch which is in 2.4.12 to 2.4.9
( Ubuntu Version ) or to update the openldap package to 2.4.12.

Regards,

Konrad

[Bug 114505] Re: ntp brought up before network is ready; fails not resolve any ip or host names; ntp does not recover

2008-10-27 Thread J Carerra
J Carrera, I do not know what you mean by 'write to hardware switch'
to ntpdate.

Sorry, I am on long travel and don't have my linux machine. As I recall
it is something involving --hwclock or something like that. It may
even be a separate command rather than an ntpdate switch. Maybe date
--hwclock?

At any rate it is a command that writes the system time into the
hardware clock--thus updating the hwclock to the correct current time.
This is useful because system time is set during initial boot to the
hardware clock time. If the hardware clock is more than 1000 sec off,
ntp will fail when it tries to start, and it does not recover until
manual intervention.

[Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down

2008-10-27 Thread Thierry Carrez
Hm, so that might be related to user-level network configurations from
NetworkManager being brought down at session logout (typically the NM wireless
connection falls in that category).
It seems obvious this might not play well with network services (client or
server) that expect network to be up very early (and very late). And that would
not be as easy to fix as some think it is... as the fix would surely affect a
feature that most people like.

[Bug 222003] Re: Can't contact LDAP server

2008-10-27 Thread Odin Hørthe Omdal
Well, no of course. I think it a bit far fetched to not be able to use a
self-signedd cert as *I'M* the one setting up the clients, and I should
be perfectly aware which certificate is mine. I don't think that it is a
good user friendly (or admin friendly) way to require to fork out
useless money for something we don't need :-)

I'm rather surprised that you REQUIRE CA signed certificates.

Anyway, as I said, the config worked when I used ldap_example on the
clients. And everything is working perfectly fine here now, a mixed
Windows/Ubuntu environment with Debian server using self-signed
certificates and all.

Ah, but I actually think I don't have any TLS enabled at all, seemed
overkill and I didn't want to set it up. :-)

Hello Jean-Baptiste,

I was going with the Gutsy to Hardy upgrade (server)
I never canceled the upgrade
I just let it finish which it seemed like it did (although there was the msg
stated in this bug)

There is 1 weird thing I have in my setup.
I initially installed 7.10 Server (w/all the LAMP config options).
I then, later, did: apt-get install ubuntu-desktop (as I didn't want to
manage the server through a browser or just command-line).
Not sure if that might've made anything work weird but I'm running a
webserver with no probs.
I hope all this information helps!

Keep me posted Jean-Baptiste (and well met!!!),

looking a bit at the trunk's changelog, I would guess this is a

for the time being, adding the below line in ups.conf (in the [ups]

subdriver = phoenix

if you can, you should also give a shot to the trunk:

[Bug 289470] Re: open-iscsi user-space does not match kernel module version

2008-10-27 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Mathias, et al-

I've spent the entire day on this issue.

As Thierry has identified, most of Debian's diff.gz is undoing something
they should not have done, and arbitrarily inflates the tarball.

Per discussion with Soren, I have taken the 870-rc3 tarball directly
from open-iscsi's website, and added Ubuntu's 865 diff.gz to it. A
couple of minor build tweaks, and I have built the package.

With Etienne's help, we've regression tested as best as we could. And
I've verified that iscsiadm -m session works:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/dustin$ iscsiadm -m session
tcp: [1] 192.168.4.146:3260,1
iqn.2008-10.com.canonical.montreal.intrepid-iscsi-target:nas0.sdb

The current state of my work is in my PPA.

I've discussed this a bit with slangasek in #ubuntu-devel. He, like
Soren and I, are not terribly comfortable with uploading a completely
new version of open-iscsi 2 days before final GA of Intrepid.

But you're at the Release Sprint in London. Hopefully you discuss the
issue and the fix with the other developers there. You can take this
work and decide what the appropriate response is, upload or deferral for
SRU.

Thanks,
:-Dustin

[Bug 87168] Re: sed script masks php compile options

I believe I'm running into this issue as well. When PHP is compiled
with --enable-discard-path, it does not work as a FastCGI responder
under Sun Java System Web Server (aka iPlanet). A hand compiled PHP
without this option works fine. I would prefer not to compile my own
PHP, so I would be nice if a PHP binary were available without this
option.
