[Bug 249824] Re: [intrepid] IPv6 unusable

2008-11-19 Thread Manson Thomas
Hi,

From Adam Track from the Bind mailing list, told me :

I think BIND from Ubuntu distribution is not compiled as GNU source
(with _GNU_SOURCE macro defined). It is needed to get IPv6 working.
The best solution is to open ticket in Ubuntu bug tracker.

Adam

Thomas.

Can't the fix be applied to Ubutnu version of nut?

2.2.2 is the current stable.
2.4.0 is the next, scheduled for the end of december.

I'll prepare a PPA with 2.3.0-svnXXX debs

[Bug 300033] [NEW] package slapd 2.4.11-0ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2008-11-19 Thread djh82uk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: slapd

I have had terrible trouble getting slapd (openldap) installed and
working, and now I am getting this error when trying to install via
synaptic

the whole openldap situation needs to be looked at and some uptodate
info added

for instance it looks in /etc/ldap/slapd.d/slapd.conf for it's config

but it puts it in /usr/local/etc/openldap/slapd.conf

[Bug 286828] Re: Access to samba3.0.26 shares using CIFS is broken on 8.10

2008-11-19 Thread Steve French
Since the Samba servers 3.0.24 through 3.0.25a which exhibited this
problem may have had problems with parsing a DFS path (in this case
for a path based call to set the file server), could someone check if
the write problems go away if the mount is done with the nodfs mount
option (would require fairly recent cifs client, perhaps even 2.6.27
kernel, to use that mount option) - that changes how the client sends
paths from \\server\share\dir\file to \dir\file and may work around
the problem if the server bug was caused by the processing of dfs paths

2008-11-19 Thread Mathias Gug
According to the log files, slapd has been successfully installed twice
before the failure. Did you try to compile openldap from source and
installed it in /usr/local before the failed attempt?

[Bug 286828] Re: Access to samba3.0.26 shares using CIFS is broken on 8.10

2008-11-19 Thread Martien Verbruggen
I've attached a tar file with two Wireshark dumps, as I couldn't work out how to
attach two files to a comment here directly.

If more information is required, please let me know.

Server: DNS-323, samba 3.0.24
Client: Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-7-generic

with standard settings:
---

Wireshark dump file: cifs.no-options.filtered.dump

mgjv# cat /proc/fs/cifs/LinuxExtensionsEnabled
1
mgjv# mount -t cifs -o rw,user=dummy,password=testme //dns-323/Shared /mnt/dummy

with nounix mount option

Wireshark dump file: cifs.nounix.filtered.dump

The mode when the file has been created doesn't look right.
The behaviour is the same when /proc/fs/cifs/LinuxExtensionsEnabled is set to 0.

mgjv# cat /proc/fs/cifs/LinuxExtensionsEnabled

[Bug 300151] [NEW] ssh slow during logon, when ENTERING INTERACTIVE SESSION

2008-11-19 Thread ichudov
Public bug reported:

I am using a Ubuntu Intrepid 32 bit server with all latest patches.

Logging on via ssh (USING KEYS) is incredibly, painfully slow.

I have done some investigation.

1. Slowness is mild after a reboot and, as time goes on, it becomes
progressively slower and sloowweerr and ssslllooowwweee.

2. If I run ssh -v, then I can see that the ssh process is stuck for
many seconds after saying entering interactive session.

3. This even happens if I do, from that server, a command ssh
localhost.

4. Disabling GSSAPI authentication, as well as saying UseDNS no, in
sshd_config, does not help.

5. A similar problems applies to use of su and can be more easily
debugged. If, as root, I say su - username date, it is also
incredibly slow. If I debug that with

  strace -o q -f su - myuserid date

then I see that su tries to connect to UNIX socket
/var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket, and then it is stuck doing poll(),
which remains unfinished. Not sure if it is related, but it could be.

Sounds like you have another upgrade or package installation running
somewhere else - that's basically the only way the debconf database can
be locked like this.

Re: [Bug 286828] Re: Access to samba3.0.26 shares using CIFS is broken on 8.10

2008-11-19 Thread Steve French
The nodfs option was added by this patch:

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=2c1b861539c15491593625920058e06452cd3747

which went in right after 2.6.27 came out so will be in 2.6.28. The
patch is small and could be added to this 2.6.27 distro kernel easily
enough. Apparently most distros did not ship the two problematic
Samba versions on their server, or have done a mandatory upgrade,
which is why we don't see this problem (server parsing of dfs paths)
more often.

On Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 3:39 PM, Martien Verbruggen
[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Nov 20 08:34:24 mgjv kernel: [ 1670.862969] CIFS: Unknown mount option nodfs

Looks like that needs an ever newer kernel.

I am having this problem with a DNS-323 NAS, so I don't easily have the
option of upgrading the Samba version on that, and would like to see
some resolution to this bug. happy to provide more information.

BTW, the nounix option changes behaviour, but does not fix it. If
wanted, I can provide test and wiretap dumps later today.

Please confirm that the packages in my PPA fix the issue, rather than the one

It's theorically containing the same fix, but we need the source changes to

Add deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/tcarrez/ubuntu intrepid main to

Then sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade
Confirm that you are testing 3.2.3-1ubuntu3.1~ppa1
