[Blueprint improved-power-management] Improved Power Management

2009-02-26 Thread Arnaud Quette
Blueprint changed by Arnaud Quette:

Whiteboard changed to:

* Powerman - PDU support (http://powerman.sourceforge.net/):
  - Debian ITP (done)
  - Debian package upload (done, approval underway)
  - Ubuntu sync (https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/315637, done and
available in universe)

* pwrkap - Power Capping
  - Debian ITP (done)
  - Debian package upload (done, approval underway)
  - Ubuntu sync (https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/306423, done and
available in universe)

* Network UPS Tools - NUT:
  - DeviceKit-power integration (postponed)
  - dummy-ups repeater mode (communication link redundancy and forwarding)
(done, 2.4.1)
  - base PDU support (~6 SNMP units) (done, 2.4.1)
  - extended PDU support, through libpowerman (~ 20 models supported) (done,
2.4.1)
- configuration improvements: provide some library / backend to develop a
config wizard (python and/or debconf). configuration is definitely NUT's
weakest point, apart from the HAL/DK-p backends! (postponed for 2.6 ; work
started on Augeas lens, Python class / application)
  - sub devices (present UPS' outlets as devices, to allow per outlet
subscription and management) (work underway in the trunk ; postponed to a later
release)
  - virtual devices (composite devices, made of several UPSs (parallel, serial
or sequential redundancy modes) and/or PDUs) (postponed)
  - Debian package upload (2.4.1-2 done)
  - Feature Freeze Exception requested for 2.4.1-2

Looks like you had another upgrade or package installation running
somewhere else - that's basically the only way the debconf database can
be locked like this. If you confirm the problem does not persist, I'd
 probably close this bug.

[Bug 105251] Re: NetworkManager wrongly releases DHCP IP

2009-02-26 Thread Austriaco
Network-manager calls dhclient with -sf option set to
/usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-dhcp-client.action which means dhclient
doesn't run the traditional dhclient-script upon acquiring the Lease.

$ sudo /sbin/dhclient -d -sf /usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-dhcp-client.action -pf
/var/run/dhclient-eth0.pid -lf /var/run/dhclient-eth0.lease -cf

It seems that NM's own program fails to notify via DBus the acquisition
of the Lease. Now, if you add NM's PPA source to your apt list:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/network-manager/ubuntu intrepid main

an upgrade from there to version 0.7-0ubuntu1~nm1~intrepid1 then this
problem is solved.

To recap the solution, install NetworkManager from the PPA repository
and it will solve the problem

The most wierd bug I've ever seen. sudo starts to malfunction for no
reason. I never touched the postfix/sendmail config, they are as the
default installation of Ubuntu 8.10 x64 puts them. My laptop is an Asus

No idea why /etc/postfix/main.cf disappeared. I can't use synaptic/apt-

[Bug 334410] Re: Can't sudo due to postfix / sendmail error! WTF?

2009-02-26 Thread Martin Pitt
sudo creates a mail if there is some problem with the authentication,
which explains the initial error mesage. Perhaps more things in startup
use sendmail, and thus they all fail because of this?

I guess it's questionable in the first place why you installed postfix
on a desktop box if you don't use/configure it, but I guess it was
installed as a dependency of something.

I'm not sure whether it would make sense to fix postfix to gracefully
fall back if main.cf doesn't exist. I guess it wouldn't; my advice for
you is to boot rescue mode, apt-get purge postfix (if you don't need
it), and restart again.

Re: [Bug 334932] [NEW] nut nut-hid-drivers remove each other

2009-02-26 Thread Arnaud Quette
Hi Brad,

you are mixing 2 things:
- the nut classic package, which provides a complete framework for
acquiring data over serial/USB/network (XML/HTTP, SNMP)
- the nut-hal-drivers, which only includes the modified USB drivers, feeding
HAL and Gnome Power Manager.

Both are mutualy exclusive: you will either need one or the other, but not
both at the same time.
So both packages have a Conflicts field with the other...

If the above is confirmed, the bug has to be closed.
If you otherwise have a specific need that is not addressed with the current
set of packages, please explain it so that we can work it out.

cheers,
Arnaud

Can you attach a debdiff to this bug, applying the remaining Ubuntu
changes to http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/n/nut/nut_2.4.1-2.dsc
?

I'll upload as soon as I have that.

Thanks,

Bug #332030 is actually a sync request, it's a merge request, since
there are remaining Ubuntu changes. This bug has been marked a
duplicate of Bug #334470, which is a FFE request for doing this merge.

Thanks,

[Bug 217159] Re: slapd + gnutls fails

2009-02-26 Thread elvis
As above:

client: ldapsearch -x -H ldaps://localhost:636 -D *** -w ***

server:
 slap_listener(ldaps:///)
connection_get(13): got connid=1
connection_read(13): checking for input on id=1
connection_read(13): TLS accept failure error=-1 id=1, closing
connection_closing: readying conn=1 sd=13 for close
connection_close: conn=1 sd=13

That was running slapd with -d3. Do you require more detailed than
that?

[Bug 217159] Re: slapd + gnutls fails

2009-02-26 Thread elvis
Oh, and the gnutls-cli stuff:

I opened the listening server with:
gnutls-serv --x509cafile my_ca.cer --x509keyfile myclient.pem --x509certfile
myclient.cer

It returns:
Set static Diffie Hellman parameters, consider --dhparams.
Processed 1 CA certificate(s).
Echo Server ready. Listening to port '5556'.

I connected to the gnutls-serv with:
gnutls-cli --x509cafile my_ca.cer --x509keyfile myclient.pem --x509certfile
myclient.cer -p 5556 servername.mydomain.tld

Similarly, I connected to Apache with
gnutls-cli --x509cafile my_ca.cer --x509keyfile myclient.pem --x509certfile
myclient.cer -p 443 servername.mydomain.tld

And slapd with:
gnutls-cli --x509cafile my_ca.cer --x509keyfile myclient.pem --x509certfile
myclient.cer -p 636 servername.mydomain.tld

Ports are listening and verified with netstat -plutn. Tests were run
on both localhost, and from another machine with copies of the certs.
No firewalls are in place, and iptables is set to ACCEPT on all
policies with no other rules in place.

As above, I get successful returns from Apache-SSL and gnutls-serv. I
get a failure from slapd.

If you need more detail or other tests, please let me know and I'll run
them.
