[Bug 227744] Re: dapper upgrade to hardy: openldap silently refuses to start when unable to open SSL certificates - main: TLS init def ctx failed: -64 - openldap user not in ssl-cert group
It is not a good idea to add the user by default because not all openldap installations require it. If the user were added to the group by default, the openldap user could end up with access to highly sensitive data when it doesn't even need it for itself, possibly without the admin knowing about it. Although it is logical to ask for MIT support, that raises a bigger question about MIT kerberos: does it have a roadmap to SSO, and being a directory server with MS Active Directory support? [Bug 185139] Re: Default installation does not log to /var/log/mysql.err or mysql.log
Wow! This bug is still alive and kicking - I had all but forgotten about it. Since it's just over a year since I first reported it, lets see if we can come up with a fix/patch. I know almost nothing about how the apt packages work and even less about configuring syslog but I suspect for the people the do know each of these subjects, the following questions/tasks will probably have pretty short answers. 1.) The mysql-server package needs to be reconfigured to put mysql.err and mysql.log into the empty /var/log/mysql directory. Maybe the actual log files should just be called "error" and "info". 2.) logrotate needs to be updated to find the log files in the new locations. 3.) Syslog needs a configuration file/parameter to log mysql info to /var/log/mysql/mysql.err and /var/log/mysql/mysql.log 4.) Perhaps the default my.cnf file needs updating to suggest that users make use of the /var/log/mysql/ location for any other mysql related logging requirements. -- Default installation does not log to /var/log/mysql.err or mysql.log https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/185139 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-dfsg-5.0 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 340404] Re: package postfix 2.5.5-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
I'm not sure what you were trying to do exactly. As far as I can tell for the dkpg logs, you removed postfix twice, then you reinstalled it, and at the last reinstall it wouldn't start. Did you change anything in /etc/postfix ? Is that directory even there? Did you remove the directory after uninstalling the postfix package? Try moving the directory /etc/postfix, like mv /etc/postfix /etc/postfix.backup, then purging the postfix packages with 'apt-get --purge remove postfix', then reinstalling it. See if you get this same error again. Maybe try to describe what you were trying to do, what commands did you run. Would be helpful. -- package postfix 2.5.5-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/340404 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to postfix in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 340383] [NEW] dhcpd sends 127.0.1.1 as DNS server
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dhcp3-server I believe this is a bug. Ubuntu configures sets the hostname in /etc/hosts and assigns it to 127.0.1.1: 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.1.1 server.example.com server The dhcpd server picks this up and sends it as primary DNS server (DHCP and DNS are on the same machine here) to dhcp clients (see attached dhcpdump output). Assigning the wrong DNS server leads to timeouts on Mac and Linux (Unix) clients, but it does not seem to affect Windows systems. As soon as I comment 127.0.1.1 in /etc/hosts out and restart the dhcpd server the problem is gone. I did not find a configuration option for dhcpd to supress this and I also think even if it was there it should not be used for this. The entry 127.0.1.1 seems to be wrong in my opinion. Thanks. ** Affects: dhcp3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- dhcpd sends 127.0.1.1 as DNS server https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/340383 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dhcp3 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 162253] Re: openssh: want hpn-ssh for 20x speed improvement!
It's not really a question of packager/developer, or Debian vs Ubuntu (especially since in this case the Debian OpenSSH maintainer happens to also be an Ubuntu OpenSSH maintainer). Debian and Ubuntu got burned in the past over OpenSSH patches, I'm pretty sure we won't integrate this in the openssh package until it makes it to OpenSSH upstream. That doesn't prevent someone else from providing, as proof of concept, PPA packages of hpn-ssh. That could help in demonstrating how great it can be. -- openssh: want hpn-ssh for 20x speed improvement! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/162253 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
