Fix was released by Debian packagers in php5 5.2.9.dfsg.1-3.
So anything based on that or later version should work out of the box.

I am also having this problem. When I reboot my machine my networking
does not work. If I do one the following of these it comes back up:
sudo dhclient eth1
or
/atc/init.d/networking restart
Definately a Ubuntu dhclient bug.

Just had the same issue and followed the steps provided by Lost In
Tokyo. This did not work for me. I then followed the steps by Kees Cook.

I'm currently running a build from the REVU packages in the PPA; if all
goes well you shouldn't have to copy any of the Karmic packages and our
versioning will end up being very similar to official.
