My test was done on Karmic too and still can't reproduce this bug. Why
do you have apache2-src installed? did you compile something? can you
also provide me the result of: ls -lh /etc/init.d/apache2

Attached is /var/log/syslog from the daily karmic server ISO (June
29th).
However, it does not include the fix Steve uploaded in comment 25 (open-
iscsi 2.0.865-1ubuntu4). As it is an installer bug, I guess it will ned
to find it's way into the daily build before I can test.

I've managed to semi-reproduce it again, although this time against a
Samba server. I mounted it using sudo mount -t cifs
'\\192.168.1.130\Public' /mnt/temp , and then while doing cat
/dev/zero /mnt/temp/temp in another terminal, I called shutdown -h
-P now through SSH on the Samba server. The
