I did also try sudo chmod 777 /dev/kvm before executing the kvm module
and a hardwired network connection rather than wireless - no difference
in the long wait.
While the kvm module is running for about 35 seconds the system monitor
is saying sync_buffer or sync_wait in the waiting channel column
Do you have any idea how we can tell in a script whether the Walrus and
storage controller components are already registered? For the cluster
controller, we check for the existence of /var/lib/eucalyptus/keys
/cluster-pk.pem; but it isn't obvious to me how to do the same for the
Walrus and SC.

IIRC that's the way it is by default with slapd.conf, so we are keeping
the same privileges in cn=config.
The base was meant to be readable by everyone because it advertises
the capabilities of the server. Without it, for example, a client can't
know if the server supports START TLS or not. And

I confirm I had exactly the same problem happen to me last week.
When looking at /var/log/eucalyptus/cloud-error.log, there was some
verbiage about a corrupted index or somesuch. Do you see something
similar?
Also, is it possible that you started the eucalyptus-cloud service from
within an SSH
after further inspection i came to this:
- i have no local dns server (only a few entries in /etc/hosts, only for the
workgroup computers)
- i use the dns provided by the ISP
- pasv_address=... option tries to resolve the given domain name to an IP using
dns
- if there's no internet connection
(oops, there's no edit...?)
i ended up not using pasv_address= option and also made a vsftpd_keepalive
script that keeps vsftpd running. (but it's not needed if pasv_address is not
in use)

I believe this is not a dup of #157849 which seems to relate to 64 bit
processors.
I'm on latest karmic koala, and kqemu support is not built into qemu:
$ qemu -kernel-kqemu -boot c -m 192 -hda /home/winme/winme.img -cdrom
Marking won't fix against qemu and kvm, which no longer exist in Ubuntu.
Marking incomplete against qemu-kvm in karmic. If this is still an
issue, please confirm it there.

Some USB devices have higher polling frequencies than others. An
abnormally high polling frequency could easily cause a guest to crawl to
a halt. Also, it could be that your device is a USB 2.0 device that is
falling back to USB 1.1 in the guest, which could also slow things down
considerably.

I just downloaded DLZ 0.7.0 from sourceforge and they don't have this
change applied either. What has it been, more than a year now? Has
upstream stopped developing this?

Just to clarify, the comment about it being a year is about the fix
going into upstream, not about this bug report. I'm worried why upstream
hasn't released a fixed version yet, that's all.

Thanks for the report. We've gotten a few requests about this over the
last few weeks. I need to respond to all of those here.
Upstream QEMU has configured kqemu off by default for 0.11, and has
completely removed the code from the tree for 0.12. This is upstream's
acknowledgement that kqemu
