[Bug 448656] Re: CPU information is inaccessible for MySQL

2009-11-02 Thread Ihon
This is caused by AppArmor, if you stop AppArmor via

/etc/init.d/apparmor stop

start Mysql via

/etc/init.d/mysql start

My Sql will run and you can now restart apparmor via

/etc/init.d/apparmor start

Now I try to find the necessary setting for the apparmor profile.

Cheers,

Ihon

Re: [Bug 459573] Re: variable expansion uses outdated data

2009-11-02 Thread Kern Sibbald
One of the reasons for using Bacula is so that you don't have to track what
Volumes it is using. It does all the work for you, and if you trust it, you
won't need particular Volume labels.

That said, If you really want to use Client based Volume labels, you can, but
to do so, the only reasonable way is to work with Pools and either prelabel
your Volumes, or use some labeling scheme such as you did. If you do not use
Pools, there is no way to absolutely guarantee that Bacula will write on a
Volume you have just created. With Pools, at least you can guarantee that it
will write on a Volume within a given Pool. There is a whole chapter in the
manual describing this for Full, Differential, and Incremental backups, which
can be easily extrapolated to Clients.

So, in my opinion, it isn't so much a question of a feature being worse than
useless, but rather learning which features will accomplish what you want.

On Monday 02 November 2009 04:38:38 Aidan Furlan wrote:
I would certainly consider this a bug. It makes variable expansion worse
than useless because I can no longer trust it to label volumes with the
correct client or date, so that all the volume names are potentially
misleading. To avoid misleading data I have gone back to using
 LabelFormat=Vol.

[Bug 442498] Re: karmic openldap cut-to-bone-and-beyond install, why ????

2009-11-02 Thread mob
Sorry for being very straight here (I'm german) but:

Yes there are people out there with no phd in programming (and not
planing to get one) that simlpy want to use openldap out of the box.
Install - setup - use!

I am new to ubuntu and I am trying to switch a productive environment
from windows backend to unbuntu. So I got some books and a lot of howtos
from the net. Installed the software and followed any of these howtos.
And wonder what happend: I got completely lost in error messages... So
lets ask the net on ubuntu karmic server sldap and:

Uuups sorry nothing there (you can find some lost people like me that
are desperatly trying to find out why all manuals and howtos dont work,
but thats it). No howto there, no description what changed (and why) and
how to deal with the situation.

That does make me wonder if I took the right decission in switching - at
least that windows stuff has documentation available that matches the
software.

So please: Make a usable how to available ASAP (=today not tomorrow)!!!
And have it published where someone will look for it (ubuntu.com or
ubuntuusers.de for my fellow germans).

[Bug 114601] Re: sasl segfault restart

2009-11-02 Thread Evgeniy Arbatov
This is little off-topic, but I have the same problem with Centos 5 and
cyrus-sasl-2.1.22-4.

What I see with strace is

open(/etc/shadow, O_RDONLY) = 8
fcntl(8, F_GETFD) = 0
fcntl(8, F_SETFD, FD_CLOEXEC) = 0
fstat(8, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0400, st_size=753, ...}) = 0
mmap(NULL, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0) =
0x2abde20b7000
read(8, root:!*:35456:0:9:7:::\nbin:*..., 4096) = 753
close(8)= 0
munmap(0x2abde20b7000, 4096)= 0
--- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) @ 0 (0) ---

SASL is started as following:

$saslauthd -a shadow -c -O /etc/saslauthd.conf -n 1

On the other hand, my SASL is working fine with LDAP.

Upstart scripts are set -e by default, so you are missing an ||
 true here.

$ set -e
$ [ -e /etc/eucalyptus/avahi-daemon.conf ]  opts=${opts} -f
/etc/eucalyptus/avahi-daemon.conf
$ echo $?

But even more, if /etc/eucalyptus/avahi-daemon.conf does
not exist, you need to drop -D entirely (to use the default file). So
 I think you want

  -exec avahi-daemon -D
  + [ -e /etc/eucalyptus/avahi-daemon.conf ] conf=-f
  /etc/eucalyptus/avahi-daemon.conf || :
  + exec avahi-daemon -D $conf

That doesn't appear to drop the -D at all? I guess maybe you mean:

script
conf=-D
[ -e /etc/eucalyptus/avahi-daemon.conf ] conf=-f
/etc/eucalyptus/avahi-daemon.conf
exec avahi-daemon $conf
end script

This command create a copy-on-write image system.img based on

[Bug 470636] Re: virt-aa-helper fails to add copy-on-write images on apparmor profile

2009-11-02 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. For now,
you must add the readonly file to /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/libvirt-uuid
(don't add it to the dynamically generated libvirt-uuid.files file).
After that you can shutdown the virtual machine and after that it will
work as expected.

I am going to mark this wishlist for now. While this is a bug, libvirt
does not support snapshotting by using cow files. This will be fixed
when the upstream sVirt plugin framework supports snapshotting via cow
files.

[Bug 448656] Re: CPU information is inaccessible for MySQL

2009-11-02 Thread Marek Šabo
Disabling AppArmor may not be desirable solution, but as you see there
could be error in apparmor's mysql configuration and then in
configuration of mysql itself. When you disable apparmor for debugging
you are one step ahead because mysql now actually produces some logs why
it can't start (eg in my case some option that just needed to be
commented. I doubt that mysqld would run with proper mysql conf and
misconfigured apparmor).

edit /etc/samba/smb.conf

find the line

nautilus still can't list the shares, but maybe that's because I need to

[Bug 424765] Re: Some options are not avaible in qemu

2009-11-02 Thread Dustin Kirkland
No, there is no kqemu in Karmic.

Upstream qemu has abandoned support for kqemu, as it's unmaintained and
breaks kvm support.

[Bug 470636] Re: virt-aa-helper fails to add copy-on-write images on apparmor profile

2009-11-02 Thread Olivier d.
Ok, thanks for the workaround, it should work (I've added them in an
other files, and it works fine).

This command is not the snapshot feature (i.e: not the kvm snapshot
command) which I knew was not supported actually.

Based on http://libvirt.org/news.html, copy-on-write is supported since
0.6.0, am I wrong ?

[Bug 463562] Re: libvirt-bin Karmic upgrade fails when invalid users exist in /etc/group

2009-11-02 Thread Dustin Kirkland
So the attached patch would allow the package to upgrade/install. I'm
attaching it here in case this is what we need.

However, I think that we would just be hiding a problem under the rug.
As part of libvirt's package installation procedure, it needs to create
the libvirtd group, and add any admin users on the system to that group.
If your system's groups or users configuration is busted, libvirt's
packaging can't do what it needs to do.

Hence, I think this bug is invalid.

2009-11-02 Thread Alberto González Palomo
Yes, it's working perfectly again.

I'm concerned that this could be a symptom of some issue with the
package. It should not be necessary to reinstall it.

I tried looking in the system logs, but I can't find any mention of ssh-askpass
or even ssh.
Do you have any ideas about things I could check?

[Bug 458521] Re: kvm crash when using virtio for network, hardy guest

2009-11-02 Thread Dustin Kirkland
I just added a new task, triaged/high against hardy's linux kernel.

The Hardy linux kernel uses a backport of 2.6.25's virtio-net
implementation that causes this bug.

This virtio-net driver needs to be fixed such that hardy vm guests using
virtio-net doesn't truncate packets and crash hypervisors.

This appears to be fixed in virtio-net implementations later than
2.6.25, so I think we either need to sync this driver with a new
release, or cherry-pick the fixes that solve this.

Assigning to jj. Hopefully he can knock this out easily.

Re: [Bug 463562] Re: libvirt-bin Karmic upgrade fails when invalid users exist in /etc/group

2009-11-02 Thread iMac
Yes,

In this case the users are valid via LDAP, however the upgrade was being
completed when the LDAP was unavailable. It was not the libvirt group,
but the admin group as you noted. Once complete I re-added the users
to the admin group and authentication and authorizations via LDAP was
fine post-upgrade.

Perhaps this implementation is flawed, but it is a packaged MDS
implementation on Debian in the backend, and works well for mixed
Windows/Debian/Ubuntu environments where users and groups transcend many
different servers but have common home directory and authentication.

If you can beat NFS+LDAP for common desktops across linux/unix domains,
I am interested to know. Maybe Karmic+Eucalyptus is the end game, but
we have this for now.

Thanks for the patch,
cheers,
IMac

2009-11-02 Thread iMac
LDAP backend; Specifically MDS packages running on Debian Lenny.

Updated/Tweaked, but similar setup to:
http://www.howtoforge.com/mandriva-directory-server-on-debian-etch

Perhaps a change to how we manage sudoers (LDAP group vs local group) is
called for, though there is little we can do for users that tweak their
own configuration using the GUI (easy add to admin).

[Bug 471512] [NEW] Slow cifs ubuntu 9.10

2009-11-02 Thread biebel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: smbfs

Ubuntu 9.10
mount.cifs version: 1.12-3.4.0

Transfer speed over samba using CIFS/SMBFS has dropped severely since updating
to 9.10 (clean install).
I should be getting transfer speeds of +- 8 MiB/s, but I'm only getting +- 4
over CIFS.
As I still get the expected 8 MiB/s when copying via gnome (Places = Network)
and in windows, I'm quite sure it is a CIFS problem.
For some odd reason pushing files from the server to a shared folder on my main
computer used to go @ the full 10 MiB/s under 9.04. Now with 9.10 installed on
the server it won't go over 2 MiB/s.

I have tried many rsize= arguments, but every value I've tried only made
things worse.

Steps to reproduce:
Mount share using mount -t cifs
Copy file

[Bug 467521] Re: After a cluster network restart get EC2ResponseError: 403 Forbidden from nodes

2009-11-02 Thread migomez
Both cluster and nodes have been rebooted several times, as well as
trying euca-describe-availability-zones multiple times since the moment
it happened.

Even after rebooting and restarting services we keep getting:
r...@ubuntu2:~# euca-describe-availability-zones verbose
Warning: failed to parse error message from AWS: unknown:1:0: syntax error
EC2ResponseError: 403 Forbidden
Failure: 403 Forbidden

To make sure it was not an error we made in a configuration file, we
installed both the cluster and the node in another server, made sure
everything worked, and performed the network restart again, and again,
we get the same problem when running commands from node to cluster (if
we run the command inside the cluster there is not error).

Thanks

Please consider this problem solved.

[Bug 403381] Re: jaunty-karmic server upgrade results in two versions of postgresql installed

2009-11-02 Thread AiO
Just to help some people out who ended up in this situation (if you
ignored the debconf message):

I found a nice little example on how to repair this on
http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/server+administration .

1. Stop cluster for 8.4, if it’s running:

sudo pg_ctlcluster 8.4 main stop

2. Drop the cluster for 8.4

sudo pg_dropcluster 8.4 main

3. With 8.3 running, run pg_upgradecluster

sudo pg_upgradecluster -v 8.4 8.3 main

4. If all goes well, cluster for 8.3 can be dropped

sudo pg_dropcluster 8.3 main

And we are probably back on track with PostgreSQL.

True, snapshot is different than copy-on-write. Can you explain how you
are creating the cow files via libvirt and using/manipulating them from
within libvirt (including the xml for the VM from 'virsh dumpxml vm
name').

[Bug 468809] Re: Support adding custom debs from a local apt repository

2009-11-02 Thread Daniel Kulesz
Exactly! The --addpkg switch just adds packages from the repositories,
which are specified by --mirror. Therefore only debs from official
repositories can be added.

Now when I have a package which is not available in any repository (a
custom deb), I didn't find a simple way to include it in the built VM,
except using one of those workarounds I mentioned. I even don't want to
setup an own, local apt repository? I just want to include a filename
(or path) in my local filesystem, and have the debs included from there.

Is the network connectivity working correctly after the restart? Are the
