Thank you for the help. I will mark it as invalid based on your last

[Bug 517067] Re: Using virtio for block devices makes disks and partitions disappear in KVM/QEMU (using vmbuilder and libvirt)

2010-02-05 Thread Andreas Ntaflos
Thanks for the comment, but how do you figure? I did not change anything
after the fact, I modified the template used for installation and setup
of the guest domain.

First, it seems to depend on the bus type whether the virtual disks are
at all visible to QEMU, as can be seen from the screenshots. At that
point logical device names are of no consequence, yet, because the
kernel isn't even booted.

Second, it does not matter whether the disks are called vda or hda
(the default) in the libvirt domain definition. From the documentation:
The dev attribute indicates the logical device name. The actual
device name specified is not guaranteed to map to the device name in the
guest OS. Treat it as a device ordering hint. This is further supported
by the fact that upon switching the bus type to ide the disks are
visible both to QEMU and to the booted guest Linux kernel but the
logical device name in the domain definition is still vda-based.

Third, the logical device name is defined and set early during
installation/setup of the guest since it looks at the modified template
in /etc/vmbuilder/libvirt. So the installation procedure is aware that
disks are named vda in the definition and takes that into account (or
should take that into account). It does not matter whether it is hda
oder vda there (I tried both, multiple times), /etc/fstab will always
have /dev/sdX* set.

So I don't think that is the problem here, but I will try again. Thanks
for the comment, again!

[Bug 517478] [NEW] remotely executed netcat (nc) uses -q option which is not universally supported

2010-02-05 Thread zigi
Public bug reported:

I Can't connect to none-debian based distros with remote tunel over SSH
(qemu+ssh) - virsh / virt-manager.

LIBVIRT_DEBUG=1 virsh -c qemu+ssh://r...@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/system:
...
debug : virExecWithHook:620 : ssh -l root xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx nc -q 0 -U
/var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock
...

As you can see nc is executed with -q option. This option isn't
universally supported (at least in CentOS, Fedora, RedHat, OpenSuse),
it's debian patch.

My system is (K)Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid:
libvirt - 0.7.5-5ubuntu5
netcat-openbsd - 1.89-3ubuntu1
virt-manager - 0.8.2-2ubuntu1

Patches which cause this problem:
libvirt : 0006-Terminate-nc-on-EOF.patch
virt-manager : 0003-Make-sure-we-quit-afer-EOF-on-stdin.patch

Solutions:
Disable these patches until the nc patch quit-timer.patch will be accepted by
upstream or distributed into other main distributions.

[Bug 517478] Re: remotely executed netcat (nc) uses -q option which is not universally supported

2010-02-05 Thread zigi
You can fix it temporarily by installing a version of nc which
recognizes the -q option on the remote server. You can try my
workaround.

On ubuntu system:
# apt-get install build-essential quilt

$ cd /usr/src
$ apt-get source netcat-openbsd
$ cd ./netcat-openbsd-1.89
$ ./debian/rules

Now you have in current directory patched version which you download on
the remote server and there compile it.

[Bug 435061] Re: smbd loses connection on DHCP lease

2010-02-05 Thread ainawing
I'm using samba 3.4.0 on ubuntu 9.10

I just looked into /etc/dhcp3/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/samba and found
that there is a test for value changes, before reconfiguring and
restarting samba. There is just the problem, that the old values are
never loaded, so of course this test will always fail and the update
(and reconnect) will be performed.

Is this file part of samba or part of dhcp3? I would apreciate a
corrected version sometime. A little info where to get those old values
would help, too.

A little help, how to change the output from tty to log would also be
nice.

Thank you,

Ainawing

Re: [Bug 517067] Re: Using virtio for block devices makes disks and partitions disappear in KVM/QEMU (using vmbuilder and libvirt)

2010-02-05 Thread Scott Moser
On Fri, 5 Feb 2010, Andreas Ntaflos wrote:

So I don't think that is the problem here, but I will try again. Thanks
 for the comment, again!

I think if you look inside your guest image you will see 'sdaX' in
/etc/fstab. Disks that are presented to the booted system as virtio will
be named 'vdX'. The discs didn't disappear, they're named differently
than your /etc/fstab, so they're (correctly) not mounted.

mount the guest image loopback, change sd - vd and i think you'll boot
happily. Alternatively, i think you can open up
'./VMBuilder/plugins/ubuntu/feisty.py' and hack in:
- disk_prefix = 'sd'
+ disk_prefix = 'vd'

The bug could be considered to be in 1 of 2 places:
a.) vmbuilder: its 'install_fstab' routines only ever receive 'sd' for
their self.disk_prefix'
b.) linux/udev : you could suggest that the vdX devices should be
symlinked or other to sdX so that your fstab finds the devices independent
of how they're connected.

I've noticed this issue as well. There is a bug report on samba's

Looks pretty stagnant. I'm trying my hand at solving this and proposed a
possible solution there. Please look at it and let me know if you have
any comment/suggestions or if I'm way off base. I don't have a good
environment to test it out either so if you're able to try it (not in a
production environment) please do.

As a workaround to this problem, disabling the apparmor profiles helped. I
disabled all profiles, but it might be a good idea to only disable the profiles

sudo aa-complain /etc/apparmor.d/*

[Bug 462172] Re: [SRU] samba Too many files are currently in use.

2010-02-05 Thread Chuck Short
Statement of Impact: Transfering several thousand files from Ubuntu to
Windows 7 will fail with the Too many open files message resulting in
the copying only half working.

How this has been addressed: This has been fixed in lucid and upstream
samba. I have verified that this has been fixed myself. i have attached
the patch which fixes this issue.

How to reproduce:

1. Install Windows 7 in a virtual machine
2. Install a Samba Share on ubuntu
3. Create many small files in a Windows folder try to copy it over to the samba
share.

There should not be any regressions with this patch.

[Bug 479955] Re: [SRU] winbind authentication fails after karmic upgrade

2010-02-05 Thread Chuck Short
Statement of Impact: Karmic shipped a samba bug that when trying to
authenticate with a bidirectional Samba PDC, winbind authentication will
fail with the following error message NT code 0x1c010002.

How this has been addressed: This has been fixed in upstream and in
lucid. The bug report was
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6646. I have backported the
patch, attached to this bug report.

How to reproduce:

1. Setup a Samba PDC
2. Try to authenticate by doing the following: wbinfo -a username%domain

There should not be any regressions with this patch.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Regards
chuck

[Bug 517714] Re: [Lucid] Error starting domain: could not remove profile

2010-02-05 Thread Jamie Strandboge
flolle, please do not disable all of the profiles. This is not needed
and there are many profiles in place that are not causing the problem.

To workaround this, you can edit qemu.conf as suggested (and restart libvirtd),
or simply temporarily disable the apparmor profile until a reboot with:
$ sudo apparmor_parser -R /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd

[Bug 201786] Re: ssh Agent admitted failure to sign using the key on big endian machines

2010-02-05 Thread bitinerant
This one bit me when I deleted my old ssh keys and generated new ones on
Karmic. Both work-arounds worked for me (I tried them
individually)--adding the line export SSH_AUTH_SOCK=0 to ~/.bashrc OR
running ssh-add ~/.ssh/id_rsa. I like the latter better because it
doesn't require extra work to distribute to the systems I use.

./usr/share/eucalyptus/eucalyptus-interface-1.6.2.jar

So eucalyptus-interface is now provided by eucalyptus-java-common in
Lucid at least. eucalyptus-walrus depends on eucalyptus-java-common, so
this should be installed on a walrus system. I really think this is
fix-released on Lucid.

Boris, can you reproduce this problem on Lucid? If so, please reopen
