[Bug 531599] Re: tricky leftovers when using a too small --raw device
Doing this on a Lucid with vmbuilder 0.12.3.r435. After some testing I found out that this is not restricted to failed/interrupted vmbuilder runs. Additionally leaving behind those device mappings seem to interfere with the filesystem in the VM. If you use a LVM logical volume as --raw device, a partition table is created on the device and partitions are setup. For those partitions device mapper is configured. Example for --raw /dev/leo02/kvm-web01.test: brw-rw 1 shuerlimann shuerlimann 251, 8 2010-05-01 07:17 leo02-kvm--web01.test brw-rw 1 rootdisk251, 9 2010-04-22 16:44 leo02-kvm--web01.testp1 brw-rw 1 rootdisk251, 10 2010-04-22 16:44 leo02-kvm--web01.testp2 As far as I can tell, no such leftovers exist if qcow images are used... If you start a vm created using --raw and having those device mappings still configured, filesystem corruption in the vm happens. This is quite reliably reproducable. [Bug 572882] Re: qemu-debootstrap does not support --variant=fakechroot
I can see why that fails, but there's really no easy way to fix this. fakeroot/fakechroot cant be built statically I think as that would defeat the purpose of overriding the symbols in shared libs, and so they link to shared libs from the other arch. I'm happy to consider / review proposed changes to help this use case, but I dont think this is easy to fix and in fact I would recommend avoiding the combination of three fragile tools in a single command (qemu-arm-static + fakeroot + fakechroot ). The fake*root tools are even more fragile in Ubuntu due to usage of -Bsymbolic-funcs to build our eglibc. ** Changed in: qemu-kvm (Ubuntu) Status: New = Won't Fix -- qemu-debootstrap does not support --variant=fakechroot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/572882 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 573048] Re: package slapd 2.4.21-0ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade:
Looking more closely at the slapd.postinst script, I see that the word failed. is actually associated with the Migrating slapd.conf file message below it, not with the chowning database directory message above it. So I don't think there's problem with the permissions after all. What happens if you run slaptest -f /etc/ldap/slapd.conf ? [Bug 573171] [NEW] vmbuilder sometimes ignores --raw option
Public bug reported: Using the following command: {{{ vmbuilder kvm ubuntu -v --debug \ --overwrite \ --raw=/dev/mapper/xxx --part=priv.partition \ --user=xxx --name=xxx --uid=1234 --gid=1234 \ --pass=xxx --ssh-user-key=/home/xxx/.ssh/authorized_keys \ --arch=amd64 --suite=lucid --flavour=virtual \ --mirror=http://192.168.1.1:/ubuntu/ \ --timezone=Asia/Tokyo \ --cpus=1 --mem=512 \ --hostname=xxx.example.com \ --bridge=br2 \ --ip=123.123.123.123. --mask=255.255.255.128 \ --gw=123.123.123.122 --dns=123.123.123.122 \ --libvirt=qemu:///system \ --addpkg=acpid --addpkg=openssh-server \ --addpkg=git-core --addpkg=etckeeper \ }}} vmbuilder will ignore the --raw option and instead create a new ubuntu-kvm/tmpt5wDhN.qcow2 or similar file under the current directory. Removoing the --part option makes it use /dev/mapper/xxx, but it of course creates just a 5 MB root partition there. Also, the --rootsize and --swapsize options appear to have no effect. Furthermore, the raw option appears to be ignored in the config file, at least when in the [DEFAULT] section. It's not clear for any of the options if there's a particular section in which they need to be placed in order to be used. I could go on, but I suggest you rewrite the options code to a) use all the options given, however, specified, and b) for the sake of debugging, print out very early on in the process exactly what it's going to do so one doesn't have to wait for a full system build to find out that it's ignoring options you specified. This was all run under 10.04 amd64, by the way. ** Affects: vm-builder (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- vmbuilder sometimes ignores --raw option https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573171 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to vm-builder in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Once i change this line in the generated /etc/dovecot/conf.d/01-dovecot-postfix.conf file, mail will start getting sent. diff: 26c26,27 mail_plugins = cmusieve --- # mail_plugins = cmusieve mail_plugins = sieve If i leave it as cmusieve, an error appears in /var/log/mail.log May 2 08:15:18 gandalf2010 dovecot: deliver(rolfy): Fatal: Plugin cmusieve not found from directory /usr/lib/dovecot/modules/lda As a hope to answer most of the questions you might have: 1 lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Release:10.04 2apt-cache policy dovecot-postfix dovecot-postfix: Installed: 1:1.2.9-1ubuntu6 Candidate: 1:1.2.9-1ubuntu6 Version table: *** 1:1.2.9-1ubuntu6 0 500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3/4 explained by the initial diff - i expected to get a working dovecot as described, but due to the 'cmusieve' setting in plugins errors appear in mail.log rather than mail getting successfully sent. I guess other pertinent information is that this happened on a new lucid install, and it's pretty much the first thing i did (aptitude install dovecot-postfix) As an aside, the package theoretically offers SASL out of the box, but i never get the AUTH lines when telnetting to localhost port 25, so i'm guessing that's an issue too, but i'll try to figure out why and give something more definite in a different bug report :| ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: dovecot-postfix 1:1.2.9-1ubuntu6 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-21.32-server 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-21-server x86_64 Architecture: amd64 Date: Sun May 2 08:27:28 2010 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx - Release amd64 (20100427) PackageArchitecture: all ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_AU.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: dovecot ** Affects: dovecot (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug lucid -- dovecot-postfix references cmusieve as a mail plugin https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573345 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dovecot in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 571926] Re: dovecot-postfix initial setting in postfix-main.cf wrong
This path looks to be correct after installing lucid and aptitude install dovecot-postfix... mailbox_command = /usr/lib/dovecot/deliver -c /etc/dovecot/conf.d/01 -dovecot-postfix.conf -n -m ${EXTENSION} that file does exist in this case... I have other issues but i wont go into those here... suffice to say this actual problem looks fixed in lucid. -- dovecot-postfix initial setting in postfix-main.cf wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571926 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dovecot in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 573451] [NEW] package dbconfig-common 1.8.44ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dbconfig-common My system lost knowledge of the USB mouse and keyboard and finally hung on the dbconfig-common install while upgrading to 10.4. I was forced to reboot the system and even though I did a partial upgrade and it seemed to work, it appears that the dbconfig-common didn't install correctly.
