Statement of Impact: Mysql that was shipped with lucid is currently running unconfined. This is due apparmor has not been converted to upstart yet, however mysql has. How this bug has been addressed: apparmor has been enabled in the init script. There should be no regressions with this change. How to reproduce: 1. Start mysql server. 2. [Bug 545795] Re: apparmor driver blocks access to hostdev and pcidev devices
Looks like I found it. The VM in my case is trying to access /sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1e.0/:01:04.4/usb6/devnum but the abstractions/libvirt-qemu profile only allows /sys/bus/usb/devices/ r, /sys/devices/*/*/usb[0-9]*/** r, when it should (also) allow /sys/devices/*/*/*/usb[0-9]*/** r, With this line added the guest boots fine and immediately gets access to the USB device. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks! When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. ** Changed in: apache2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: apache2 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- apache running at 100% indefinitely https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575175 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to apache2 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 575175] Re: apache running at 100% indefinitely
Is there something specific you want? 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, This is a web server. It started apache on boot for me when I rebooted the host a week ago. It ran for a week or so. I logged in after being out of town for the weekend and I had 6-7 apache processes running at 100% CPU, but apparently doing nothing (netstat -anop showed no connections, strace showed nothing happening, etc). There is no specific step or action I took to cause this. Presumably some external user accessed some web page which triggered what appears to be a bug in the zend library (based on the fact that this is a webserver and the gdb backtrace of the running process I supplied) 2. the behavior you expected, and I expect apache to not use 100% of all my CPUs! 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). I expect apache to not run at 100% CPU. Jamie, yes this fixes it. thank you! I notice however some redundancies between abstractions/libvirt-qemu and usr.lib.libvirt.virt-aa-helper? At least the line /sys/bus/usb/devices/ r, appears in both, don't know if that matters any, though. So that's good :) But now I have discovered something else. When booting a VM that has a USB device included in its XML definition (like here: https://daff.pseudoterminal.org/files/vm-usb.txt) now thanks to this fix works fine. *However* trying to attach a USB device while the VM is running (using virt-manager in my case) results in these messages in /var/log/libvirt/qemu/vm.log: usb_create: no bus specified, using usb.0 for usb-host husb: open device 5.2 /dev/bus/usb/005/002: Permission denied husb: open device 5.2 /dev/bus/usb/005/002: Permission denied husb: open device 5.2 And in /var/log/kern.log: May 4 17:01:19 TESTHOST kernel: [79029.932635] type=1503 audit(1272985279.341:1009): operation=open pid=23782 parent=1 profile =libvirt-959806d1-327a-cd14-6b3f-ddeee8a19d0e requested_mask=rw:: denied_mask=rw:: fsuid=0 ouid=0 name=/dev/bus/usb/005/002 So it seems that access to /dev/bus/usb/** is needed as well? -- apparmor driver blocks access to hostdev and pcidev devices https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/545795 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Oh and it seems that disconnecting/detaching an USB device from the running VM doesn't work at all? virt-manager complains: Device could not be removed from the running machine. This change will take effect after the next VM reboot But this has probably nothing to do with AppArmor and may just be a shortcoming of Libvirt? [Bug 574474] Re: Dist-Upgrade Karmic-Lucid: Upgrading slapd fails with chown: invalid argument: `'
Yes, I think that explains why you are getting the chown: invalid argument `' error Specifically, when the slapd.postinst parses through the slapd.conf file, it attempts to process included files... but it assumes that the database, suffix, and directory lines for a particular database are all found in the same file. So in your case, it looks through all the files and find a suffix line (i.e. presumably one found in suffix.include), but then when it goes to look up what directory that suffix was tied to, it isn't able to associate that suffix with the directory line found there in your slapd.conf file. (This in turn means that it ends up calling chown with an empty FILE argument, e.g. chown openldap , which then generates the error message you see). In the short run, since your database files do already have the correct permissions, you can probably work around this dpkg error by commenting out the update_databases_permissions line in slapd.postinst (its line 670 in the script for slapd 2.4.21-0ubuntu5), and then running dpkg --configure again. Obviously you will be likely to have the same problem again the next time slapd is upgraded... but I don't know if there will be any easy fix for that, given the general move away from slapd.conf-style configuration -- Dist-Upgrade Karmic-Lucid: Upgrading slapd fails with chown: invalid argument: `' https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574474 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openldap in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 575458] [NEW] /etc/dhcp3/dhclient-exit-hooks.d/ntp breaks local NTP server (patch)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ntp The dhcp exit hook for ntp removes *all* ntp servers from ntp.conf if the dhcp server provides a new ntp host. [Bug 575572] [NEW] Ospf6d aborts on start if 'ipv6 ospf6 advertise prefix-list' is applied to an interface
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: quagga [Also submitted to Quagga's bugzilla (https://bugzilla.quagga.net/show_bug.cgi?id=593) and the Debian bug tracker (http://bugs.debian.org/580299) - this issue occurs on Debian (lenny and squeeze), Ubuntu (lucid) and FreeBSD (8.0-STABLE with quagga built from ports). I don't think it's the same as the similar-sounding bug reported in bug#519488; that was applying a prefix-list to an area definition and this bug occurs when attaching a prefix-list to an interface. Additionally, in this bug the daemon is functional with the new configuration until it's restarted, at which point it aborts.] If an interface has been configured with the 'ipv6 ospf6 advertise prefix-list' option, the ospf6 daemon will abort when it tries to start.
