[Bug 545302] Re: allow seabios in libvirt apparmor

2010-05-10 Thread David Varley
Thanks for the note RobertO, the same thing happened to me when I
upgraded to Lucid, and like you it took me some time to find the
problem. Unfortunately as the years go by it seems to me that added
Security features have become by far the biggest drain on productivity
in all areas of computing.

[Bug 571543] Re: Milter and Freshclam configurations buggy in Lucid

2010-05-10 Thread Scott Kitterman
I think it's OK the way it is. clamd takes a lot longer to restart in
0.96 than it did in 0.95, so we changed the default to false (so the
clamd would restart every 6 hours and not hourly). Part of what was
bugged in the current packages was we didn't carry that through
correctly.

ok, i noticed in the system monitor that a process kept trying to run
'stop mysql', but mysql wasn't running (probably stopped earlier in the
dpkg script). If you're into this situation, run 'sudo start mysql' and
dpkg will continue normally.

It's qcow2 and increasing size is not what the problem is. The problem

[Bug 578179] [NEW] No write permission on smbmount on XP machine, if the shared folder is more than 1 word

2010-05-10 Thread Ken Weill P. Lumacad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

I have a windows xp machine. With shared folders named, My Documents,
Private, Cafe Files, Softwares. All of these folders have sub-
folders in it. All these folders have read-write permission enabled.
(Allow network users to change my files: shared settings in XP ).

Opening these folders through Nautilus (press CTRL+L, then enter:
smb://192.168.0.15), all of those 4 shared folders are there. But I can
only write to Private and Softwares folders. I can't write to My
Documents and Cafe Files directly. I mean, i can't write to the main
folders of My Documents and Cafe Files but i can write on their sub-
folders.

As I have observed, shared folders with space on their names, i can't
write to them. Like My Documents and Cafe Files. I can only write to
their sub-folders, not in their main folder.

No problem with shared folder with one word only. Like, Private or
Softwares. I can write to their main folder and sub-folders.

I hope this information is enough. I have seen old bug report about this
one, but the status is already set to invalid. We have the same
problem with the reporter of that bug. It's just that his explanation is
not very clear.

This bug is about the fact that the plugin was renamed, and this affects
people who have configured dovecot to use the plugin (including those who do
not use postfix-dovecot).

The other bug is about the fact that postfix-dovecot refers explicitly to
the old name, and needs to be changed to use the new name.

[Bug 578200] [NEW] (megatec_usb) error: Driver not connected

2010-05-10 Thread François Marier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nut

Since upgrading to lucid, nut can no longer connect to my UPS, a Belkin
600VA USB. ( My setup is described here:
http://feeding.cloud.geek.nz/2010/04/monitoring-belkin-600va-ups-with-
nut-on.html )

This is what I see in my logs:

upsd[25112]: Can't connect to UPS [belkinusb] (megatec_usb-belkinusb): No
such file or directory
upsmon[25118]: Poll UPS [belkin...@localhost] failed - Driver not connected
upsmon[25118]: Communications with UPS belkin...@localhost lost
upsmon[25118]: Poll UPS [belkin...@localhost] failed - Driver not connected
  upsmon[25118]: UPS belkin...@localhost is unavailable

I have downgraded (the libusbclient1 and nut packages) to the version of
nut from karmic and it has started to work again. So something in
between those two version has broken that driver I guess.

Is there anything I can do to help in troubleshooting this problem some

[Bug 565659] Re: qemu-img baseimage creation doesn't warn for image being smaller

2010-05-10 Thread lavinog
should really raise a warning if ../base-dont-touch.img is smaller than 10GB
Here you are saying if the forked image is larger than the base image.

If QEmu doesn't handle a differnent size, even a bigger one, I don't see why
qemu-img create -b ... should take a size argument at all.
I just showed that there is a reason why there is a size argument.

If the issue is when the forked image is smaller than the base, I
suspect that the issue is that the filesystem was not reduced in size
first, kvm-img is not responsible for this. Did you remember to shrink
your partitions before shrinking the image size?

Also, you do not need to include a size when using -b with the kvm-image create.
Are you intentionally trying to reduce the disk size? Why? If you are trying
to recover space on the host system, you can zero out the free space on the
guest (bleachbit can do this) then convert your image using -c to compress the
image...then use that image as a base image. Qcow2 images only use up what is
needed.

[Bug 565659] Re: qemu-img baseimage creation doesn't warn for image being smaller

2010-05-10 Thread Muelli
You're right. the descriptive text is wrong. In fact, I was typing the
bug report up very quickly.

I did not want to change the size of the base image. Basically I just
wanted to checkpoint my machine. So in fact, I couldn't bother less
about the size and I thought qemu-img made me. But now I've just
realised that you don't need to provide a size argument which I thought
was mandatory.

Although I think it is very a corner case to reduce the image size and
qemu should raise a warning if anybody attempts to decrease the image
size, this could probably be closed as NOTABUG or so.

[Bug 578332] [NEW] AppArmor blocks hot-attaching of USB devices

2010-05-10 Thread Andreas Ntaflos
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 10.04 server, after applying the fixes to Libvirt's AppArmor
profiles as discussed in bug 545795 the hot-attachment of USB devices is
blocked/denied by AppArmor. Hot-attachment means: a KVM-based VM is
running and a USB devices connected to the underlying host is to be
attached/passed-through to the VM while it is running. This can be
accomplished by using virt-manager:

1. Open the Details window of the virtual machine in question
2. Klick Add Hardware
3. Select Physical Host Device, Next
4. Select USB device and choose the device to be attached (in our case a USB
card reader), Next
5. Finish

The logfile for the machine in question immediately shows:

usb_create: no bus specified, using usb.0 for usb-host
husb: open device 5.2
/dev/bus/usb/005/002: Permission denied
husb: open device 5.2
/dev/bus/usb/005/002: Permission denied
husb: open device 5.2
/dev/bus/usb/005/002: Permission denied
husb: open device 5.2

/var/log/kern.log accordingly shows

kernel: [79029.932635] type=1503 audit(1272985279.341:1009):
operation=open pid=23782 parent=1 profile=libvirt-959806d1-327a-cd14
-6b3f-ddeee8a19d0e requested_mask=rw:: denied_mask=rw:: fsuid=0
ouid=0 name=/dev/bus/usb/005/002

This happens because AppArmor doesn't allow Libvirt access to
/dev/bus/usb/**. Note that this works fine when the machine in question
is shut down prior to attaching the USB device but that is exactly not
the desired behaviour of hot-attaching devices.

This can be fixed quite simply by allowing read-write access to
/dev/bus/usb/**. I don't know if that needs to be added to the profile
abstractions/libvirt-qemu or usr.lib.libvirt.virt-aa-helper. I believe
it is the latter, but I am not sure.

[Bug 554928] Re: cannot follow symlinks on any samba share

2010-05-10 Thread AlainKnaff
Just a remark for those gotten bitten by this behavior, and want to
avoid similar occurrences in the future: The samba team doesn't read
distribution's bug trackers, but they do have their own list:

samba-techni...@lists.samba.org

The samba team lives under the impression that only a tiny minority of
people are affected by this bug, and they can only be convinced
otherwise if more people make their voices heard. So if you care, drop a
note to samba-techni...@lists.samba.org

Thanks,

[Bug 574867] Re: package samba-common-bin 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2010-05-10 Thread Mark Campbell
Hi, I had the same problem as you. What was suggested to me was to move
the files to make them unreachable, e.g., nmblookup to nmblookup.bak, so
I did that and it gave me a new error with a new file, so I moved that
one as well. I repeated this process until apt-get -f install proceeded
(I used -fy).

The three files in question were:

'testparm'
'net'
'nmblookup'

I moved these files to their name plus .bak and the apt-get -f install
proceeded. Find attached a log of my activity in this endeavor.
Everything is included from beginning to finish for this bug.

[Bug 578463] [NEW] pam_ldap disconnects from LDAP without unbinding, causing many connection_read(): no connection! warnings in logs

2010-05-10 Thread Mark A. Ziesemer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libpam-ldap

Many connection_read(): no connection! warnings are written to
/var/log/debug and /var/log/syslog by slapd. However, as stated at
http://www.openldap.org/lists/openldap-software/200811/msg00079.html ,
this is not a problem with slapd, but a client that is disconnecting
without first unbinding.

The suspect client is pam_ldap.so, part of libpam-ldap, when the system
is configured for LDAP client authentication, as per
http://doc.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/serverguide/C/openldap-server.html
#openldap-auth-config . It is easily reproduced when using sudo
login, with either valid or invalid credentials against LDAP. It is
also reproduced using su user, but apparently only when an invalid
password, etc., does not result in a valid login.

I tried adding some logging into pam_ldap.c and recompiling, and it
shows that ldap_unbind is being called from _pam_ldap_cleanup_session ,
but the warnings still are produced.

System info: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, libpam-ldap 184-8.2ubuntu1

[Bug 545795] Re: apparmor driver blocks access to hostdev and pcidev devices

2010-05-10 Thread James Neave
Hi,

I think I may also be having this problem, I'm trying to pass through a PCI
WinTV NOVA T 500.
It's actually a pair of USB DVB-T tuners on a PCI card so it needed the 'three
stars' in the /sys path in the apparmour profile.

I appended the improved solution:

  /sys/bus/usb/devices/ r,
  /sys/bus/usb/devices/** r,
  /sys/devices/**/usb[0-9]*/** r,

But in the qemu log file I get:

husb: open device 10.2
husb: config #1 need -1
husb: 1 interfaces claimed for configuration 1
husb: grabbed usb device 10.2
usb_linux_update_endp_table: Cannot send after transport endpoint shutdown

Is this the same problem or have I found a new one? Googeling for that
last line finds nothing!

I also had to add this to get past the permission denied error:

 /dev/bus/usb/** rw,

Would the output of 'find /sys/devices' be of any use?

Regards,

James.

[Bug 545795] Re: apparmor driver blocks access to hostdev and pcidev devices

2010-05-10 Thread James Neave
Rebooting the PC fixed that problem so I guess something hadn't been reloaded.
I've also added /dev/** rwk, to the apparmour profile. Taking it away doesn't
stop it from working again, although I've not tried rebooting the host yet.

It still doesn't quite work however, as now (on the guest) I see this in
lsusb:

ja...@myth:~$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 2040:9950 Hauppauge
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

but in dmesg I see:

[5.806567] dib0700: loaded with support for 13 different device-types
[5.816285] dvb-usb: found a 'Hauppauge Nova-T 500 Dual DVB-T' in warm state.
[5.816612] dvb-usb: This USB2.0 device cannot be run on a USB1.1 port. (it
lacks a hardware PID filter)
[5.816682] dvb-usb: Hauppauge Nova-T 500 Dual DVB-T error while loading
driver (-19)
[5.816787] usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_dib0700

Different problem?
Why is it on a USB 1 port? Is the virtual USB hub 1.1? Can I change that?

Regards,

James.

[Bug 545795] Re: apparmor driver blocks access to hostdev and pcidev devices

2010-05-10 Thread James Neave
Hmm, it seems thats actually because usb2 is not supported in KVM?

I tried passing through the PCI card itself, but I'm back to permission
denied :(

device: 03:06.0: driver=pci-assign host=03:06.0
device: 03:06.1: driver=pci-assign host=03:06.1
device: 03:06.2: driver=pci-assign host=03:06.2
get_real_device: /sys/bus/pci/devices/:03:06.0/config: Permission denied
pci-assign: Error: Couldn't get real device (03:06.0)!
Error initializing device pci-assign

apparmour files contains:

  /sys/bus/usb/devices/ r,
  /sys/bus/usb/devices/** r,
  /sys/devices/**/usb[0-9]*/** r,
  /sys/bus/pci/devices/ r,
  /sys/bus/pci/devices/** r,

  /dev/shm/pulse-shm* r,
  /dev/shm/pulse-shm* rwk,
  /dev/snd/* rw,
  /dev/bus/usb/** rw,

Is there any way to get access to an apparmor trace file? See what it's
accessing?

Thanks,

James.

[Bug 545795] Re: apparmor driver blocks access to hostdev and pcidev devices

2010-05-10 Thread James Neave
Found the apparmour errors in syslog, related to virt-aa helper.
I added /sys/devices/** r, to usr.lib.virt-aa-helper and got a bit further.
Still getting this:

May 10 23:14:25 hal kernel: [ 179.037233] type=1503
audit(1273529665.107:22): operation=open pid=1601 parent=1 profile

denied_mask=r:: fsuid=0 ouid=0
name=/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:14.4/:03:06.0/vendor

in syslog, but now it's some kind of dynamic profile, but I don't know
where the template is to edit?

That's it for tonight, I'm going to bed -.- zz

Regards,

James.

[Bug 578332] Re: AppArmor blocks hotplugging of USB devices

2010-05-10 Thread Andreas Ntaflos
** Summary changed:

- AppArmor blocks hot-attaching of USB devices
+ AppArmor blocks hotplugging of USB devices

** Description changed:

On Ubuntu 10.04 server, after applying the fixes to Libvirt's AppArmor
- profiles as discussed in bug 545795 the hot-attachment of USB devices is
- blocked/denied by AppArmor. Hot-attachment means: a KVM-based VM is
- running and a USB devices connected to the underlying host is to be
- attached/passed-through to the VM while it is running. This can be
- accomplished by using virt-manager:
+ profiles as discussed in bug 545795 the hotplugging of USB devices is
+ blocked/denied by AppArmor. Hotplugging means: a KVM-based VM is running
+ and a USB devices connected to the underlying host is to be attached
+ /passed-through to the VM while it is running. This can be accomplished
+ by using virt-manager:

  1. Open the Details window of the virtual machine in question
  2. Klick Add Hardware
  3. Select Physical Host Device, Next
  4. Select USB device and choose the device to be attached (in our case a
USB card reader), Next
  5. Finish

The logfile for the machine in question immediately shows:

usb_create: no bus specified, using usb.0 for usb-host
  husb: open device 5.2
  /dev/bus/usb/005/002: Permission denied
  husb: open device 5.2
  /dev/bus/usb/005/002: Permission denied
  husb: open device 5.2
  /dev/bus/usb/005/002: Permission denied
  husb: open device 5.2

  /var/log/kern.log accordingly shows

  kernel: [79029.932635] type=1503 audit(1272985279.341:1009):
  operation=open pid=23782 parent=1 profile=libvirt-959806d1-327a-cd14
  -6b3f-ddeee8a19d0e requested_mask=rw:: denied_mask=rw:: fsuid=0
  ouid=0 name=/dev/bus/usb/005/002
