there is also the problem that others values too are wrong, like specified in bug 563114. As you can see values of +12V, -12V, etc are missing, and the problem are not tags but VALUES. Wha's the meaning of 4.08V in a computer? These values don't make sense!! In /etc/init.d/ntp you sync with the ntp servers with this line:
/usr/sbin/ntpdate -s -b $NTPDATE_OPTIONS $tickers /dev/null
After that the script starts ntpd with this line
start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --oknodo --pidfile $PIDFILE --startas
$DAEMON -- -p $PIDFILE -u $UGID $NTPD_OPTS
What happens is that. ntp will not start since port 123 (ntp) is already in
use.

The reason is that, ntpdate is running in the background and if it
doesn't sync fast it will still use port 123 when ntp is trying to start
a few lines down the script.
Here is a patch :) -- and yes you have to strart ntpdate in the
foreground otherwise you have a race!!

Hi, chuck What do you mean? Mysql root password is not empty. Should i put it somewhere? I've read on the ubuntu forum that it's actually a problem with mysql upstart script.. So at first i was doing sudo -u mysql mysqld after each boot, then i copied an init.d script from an other machine. I'm using absolute path. The problem is that the path was given by LDAP with : user_attrs = mailbox=home (this is what is recommended in the documentation) It seems that, for whatever reason this string is passed directly to the code and used as home. But because it starts with maildir:, it fails the test first character is /. The workaround so far was to disable mailbox from ldap and use directly mail_location = maildir:/home/mail/%u I've seen a similar symptom on dovecot mailing list and the dev reply something like this is wrong, remove the maildir:. It's really a pitty because a lot of usecases are now broken because of a poor implementation of one very specific test. Right, let me precise a bit more what I’m doing. I have a home network with various W$ and Ubuntu PCs + a Mandriva (2007) server. This server is used for sharing files, printing, scanning, photo/videos web pages, ssh… Due to variety of OSes, file sharing between W$ PCs and this server uses SMB (Ubuntu PCs use mostly ssh folders). Samba is installed on the server, the Mandriva (and formerly Mandrake) configuration is very close to what explained in the “Using Samba” book: Both nmbd and smbd daemons are started at boot time. Now, with Ubuntu, here is what I get, with standard nmbd and smbd conf files : - At boot time : only smbd started. - nmbd must be started manually or samba restarted when network is up to have nmbd + smbd operational. - If only smbd is running, file sharing on the server is *not* working: the server is visible from the PCs, but impossible to enter workgroup or shares (they are not visible). - If nmbd (and smbd) started, then SMB/Samba file sharing works at 100% As I explain, due to Wifi, network will come up only after boot (and after nmbd start). Having smbd running without nmbd is useless, at least, in my case.
