[Bug 581718] Re: dovecot upgrade purposely breaks working configuration

2010-05-18 Thread Lionel Dricot
I don't set the home field manually. It's set by Mandriva Directory
Server. I think that the error come from that mail and home are, on my
config, un

I find it very wrong to consider that as a user fault because :

1) it was working previously and al least one existing configuration
(mine) was working fine with it.

2) there's no rule that say that it's bad to return maildir:. It's just
lazyness from the programmer : consider it user fault instead of
correcting it.

3) the software understand perfectly what the user want without any
possible confusion and decides arbitrarly to give an error

4) the error message is not related to that issue.

I understand perfectly how this bug can be considered as user fault, not a
bug but IMHO just putting the head in the sand.

Well, in the end, I agree that it's a broader consideration (and less urgent
;-) )

[Bug 573318] Re: mysql server will not start

2010-05-18 Thread Manson Thomas
@thecapsaicinkid is your file readable ?

because if you look at the pre-start script it makes the following check
:

pre-start script
#Sanity checks
[ -r $HOME/my.cnf ]
[ -d /var/run/mysqld ] || install -m 755 -o mysql -g root -d /var/run/mysqld
LC_ALL=C BLOCKSIZE= df --portability /var/lib/mysql/. | tail -n 1 | awk '{
exit ($44096) }'
end script

What you can do is :

su - mysql
export HOME=/etc/mysql

and try to run the command and check which one return false ( something
!= 0)

ex:
$[ -r $HOME/my.cnf ]
$echo $?
0

[Bug 582251] [NEW] debug1: Remote: No xauth program; cannot forward with spoofing.

2010-05-18 Thread arturj
Public bug reported:

Fresh installation of a LUCID server (AMD64) has following major issue:

X11Forwarding does not work anymore. Running the ssh-client (again from
Lucid Desktop) like this ssh -v servername throws:

...
debug1: Remote: No xauth program; cannot forward with spoofing.
...

Running strings /usr/sbin/sshd |grep xauth on the remote server shows that
sshd is looking for xauth in this path:
/usr/bin/X11/xauth

But this does NOT exist until the package x11-common is installed.

Hint: Package xauth which is automatically installed by openssh-server
has its binary in /usr/bin.

Suggestion: SSHD should be fixed to look for xauth in the right
directory or openss-server package should be fixed to depend on
x11-common package instead xauth

There are many other X11-Forwarding bug reports - maybe related to this
issue.

[Bug 579868] Re: Unable to use Eucalyptus' iptables-preload feature with UEC

2010-05-18 Thread Dave Walker
Generally, on a Ubuntu system ufw is recommended as a wrapper around
iptables. Can i suggest you add the iptables line to
/usr/share/ufw/iptables/before.rules which should ensure the rule is
persistent across reboot.

If that solves the issue, then please report back here; otherwise we
need to investigate why eucalyptus is dropping existing rules.

Thanks.

[Bug 582312] [NEW] Please sync tomcat6 6.0.26-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-05-18 Thread Thierry Carrez

[Bug 579868] Re: Unable to use Eucalyptus' iptables-preload feature with UEC

2010-05-18 Thread Carlos Perelló Marín
I know about ufw, the problem is that eucalyptus is not aware of ufw (at
least from what I saw in the source code) and the cloud controller
resets the iptables rules EVERY TIME it's restarted, not just on reboot.
The only documented way to prevent it from clear your custom rules is
to use the iptables-preload file I talked about.

I know that the ideal solution would be that Eucalyptus use ufw, however
I'm not sure that would be a trivial task so, until then, I just want to
be able to use the official way to get it working instead of a hack I
had to add so the file is copied there after each reboot.

[Bug 302880] Re: Add serial console in xml configuration file generated by vm-builder

2010-05-18 Thread seph
I'm just starting to play with 10.04, and ran into this. Not having easy
console access for remote virtual servers is a big step backwards from
xen. Sure, I can use templates, and work around all these, but there's a
lot of extra work for what I think should be normal.

[Bug 557300] Re: tomcat6 package should fully support running as a different user

2010-05-18 Thread Thierry Carrez
There are several solutions:

1/ Only set the permissions on original installation (do not modify on upgrades)
2/ Make installation/upgrades look into /etc/default/tomcat6 to get the user
name
3/ Make installation/upgrades respect dpkg-statoverride (do not change
permissions on upgrades if dpkg-statoverridden)
4/ Preseed the user you want tomcat6 to run under

I think we want to keep the possibility to improve permissions on future
upgrades, so solution (1) is not good. Solution (4) is technically the
best, but it's a new feature so it's too much for a SRU.

As far as a Lucid SRU is concerned, solution (2) or (3) are the smallest
change (they are not exclusive, btw). Both are slightly inconvenient
(one requires the /etc/default/tomcat6 file to be present before install
(or not purged from a previous install), while the other requires to run
a few dpkg-statoverride/user creation/ authbind configuration commands).
But they would survive upgrades perfectly. Let me know if that would be
acceptable.

NB: I would keep the tomcat6 group as is.

[Bug 582251] Re: debug1: Remote: No xauth program; cannot forward with spoofing.

2010-05-18 Thread Colin Watson
The problem is that some people seem not to have a /usr/bin/X11 - .
symlink, though it's present on my Lucid installation so I'm not quite
clear on what's going on. In any case, Maverick's OpenSSH packaging now
uses /usr/bin/xauth instead (see bug 8440). There's a backport in

Ah, yes, you're right that that symlink is shipped by x11-common. But
in any case it's moot for Maverick, although it might be worth fixing
that way for Lucid. I'll open a bug task for that.

[Bug 573919] Re: autofs doesn't work with lucid

2010-05-18 Thread Paul Price
I also have this problem under Ubuntu 10.04LTS.
Running the automounter manually (thanks onkara), on attempting to change to an
NFS-mounted directory, I noticed:

mount.nfs: rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote locking.
mount.nfs: Either use '-o nolock' to keep locks local, or start statd.

On starting statd (sudo start statd) and autofs (sudo start autofs),
the automounter is now working.

Neither autofs nor statd appear to be in /etc/rc?.d/

2010-05-18 Thread Hernan
Sorry Sam, but I don't fully understand how the patch become available in
ubuntu releases.
But I can confirm that last available package of krb5 in lucid repositories
(krb5_1.8.1+dfsg-2) still have the bug/problem and the link giving in comment
#6 correspond to and older version of krb5 (the line numbers does not match the
last sources).
Hope is resolved soon !

Re: [Bug 577237] Re: Default UEC install using 1 pc 4 CLC, CC, Walrus etc 1 NC - VM subnet mask is created as 255.255.255.255 - unreachable by a 192.168.1.x 255.255.255.0 class C subnet

2010-05-18 Thread brian mullan
Mattias

the wireless router attached to my cable modem provides a NAT'd DHCP
192.16.x.x network

*clc* (192.168.x.x 255.255.255.*0*) ---
  |--[*wireless
bridge*]---[ (wifi=192.168.1.1)* wireless router *(eth=70.x.x.x)
]---[eth=70.x.x.x *cable modem*]--- internet
* nc* (192.168.x.x 255.255.255.*0*)
*NAT DHCP *
   |
   |__* vm* (192.168.1.200 255.255.255.*255*)

But that is the same IP network range I specified. Only after installation
the VM's got their 192.168.x.x address *but* with a 255.255.255.255 mask
(wrong) instead of 255.255.255.0 (right)

I'll try to get the info for you.

FYI, I looked on the Ubuntu Virtualization forum and saw about 5-6 other
folks that described almost the identical problem.

There should be a NEW forum section specific to UEC added, by the way!

*I have a suspicion* that my problem is related to the mode (re System,
Static, Managed, Managed-Vlan)...setup... because of the description of
Managed Mode where the VMs it creates are put into a non-routable
subnet sounds like what happened to me and the others ... at least
from their descriptions.

[Bug 530323] Re: resolvconf update script should not produce error when main.cfg missing

2010-05-18 Thread stlubuntu
I am running 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop (in place upgrade from 09.10)
on an 3.0 Ghz AMD Phenom II 945 Quad Core / 6 GB RAM, Network-Manager
was not present prior to or after upgrading (intentionally). Networking
is handled by a traditional interfaces file. Sometimes immediately
following boot up, there is (at least temporarily) no dns name
resolution and consequently no internet access until a sudo
/etc/init.d/networking restart is performed, the output of which is as
follows:

[Bug 220731] Re: Time-synchronization in Ubuntu 8.04 (ntpd) gives +2 hours

2010-05-18 Thread C de-Avillez
Hello Halvor,

OK, let's try a different approach:

Please open a terminal and run:

1. dpkg -l ntp\*

2. date

3. date -u

4. locale

5. lsb_release -a

and then add all output here. We will proceed from there.

[Bug 573919] Re: autofs doesn't work with lucid

2010-05-18 Thread Dan Krejsa
Hi,
After upgrading from 9.10 to 10.04, I had a short bit of trouble getting
autofs working until I figured out that I needed to re-add the line

automount: files nis

to /etc/nsswitch.conf . Now things are working OK for me.

[Bug 582627] [NEW] slapd sometimes doesn't start in lucid; can't log in if using nss_ldap

2010-05-18 Thread Stephen Warren
Public bug reported:

When I reboot my machine running lucid, slapd often doesn't start at
all. Since my non-system users are all stored in the ldap database via
nss_ldap etc., this means that I can't log in.

Note: This problem is intermittent; it doesn't happen every time by any
means. After upgrade to karmic and lucid, I was affected by various
other upgrade bugs such as bug 571057, but I believe I've fixed the
config files to solve the issues caused by those upgrades.

I tried looking through /var/log/*, but I can't find any relevant log
entries that would indicate why slapd didn't start (or perhaps it does
start and crashes/exits quickly for some reason). Any pointers on
tracing this would be appreciated.

Thanks for reporting this bug, and helping make Ubuntu better.

Any login issues should be logged to /var/log/auth.log. Can you check that
file the next time you experience this problem?

Problems with slapd should be logged to /var/log/syslog, so you might double
check that as well.

Thanks again.

Mike,
Could you please post your sshd config file so we can work on reproducing the
