[Bug 582376] Re: Samba (nmbd) fails to start at boot

2010-05-20 Thread Thierry Carrez
The upstart script is located at /etc/init/nmbd.conf
Is there anything showing up about starting failure in /var/log/syslog,
/var/log/boot.log or /var/log/samba/* ?
Could you attach the information required at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSamba#Samba%20as%20a%20server

[Bug 577683] Re: tomcat6 directory structure broken

2010-05-20 Thread Thierry Carrez
Reading the answer to the question would probably have helped you.
FWIW we have been working in the 10.04 cycle with upstream to be both
standards-compliant and working, so the collaboration is already in progress.

The tomcat6 packaging is not supposed to be used from /usr/share/tomcat6
by running bin/startup.bin. This is the (shared) location for files used
in common by the tomcat6 and tomcat6-user packages. As described in
http://doc.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/serverguide/C/tomcat.html there are two
ways of using the packages.

Using the system instance (tomcat6 package), it will be started from
/etc/init.d/tomcat6 (with CATALINA_BASE=/var/lib/tomcat6 and
CATALINA_HOME=/usr/share/tomcat6)
Using a private instance (tomcat6-user package), use tomcat6-instance-create
my-instance, then my-instance/bin/startup.sh (will start with
CATALINA_BASE=my-instance and CATALINA_HOME=/usr/share/tomcat6)

Permissions issues have been workarounded by no longer running with a
SecurityManager (to mimic what the upstream Apache distribution does by
default). If there are anything left, please file a new bug.

So please try like this:

initctl reload-configuration

service ssh start

We run a dualstack network, and i want to set inet_protocols to all on a

preseed during installation due to installation method).

I have set:

postfix postfix/protocols   select  all

But the inet_protocols is never set. I have tried different places in
the config, and different settings (ipv4/ipv6/all).

Output install:

[Bug 198351] Re: fusesmb/smbnetfs SIGABORT in getattr() because libsmbclient is not thread safe

2010-05-20 Thread Peter
For what it is worth I have been using smbnetfs on hardy jaunty and now lucid
without problems. When I started out, on hardy fusesmb was not working, which
is why I used smbnetfs. I have just revisited and tried fusesmb again. It does
not work on Lucid and I am seeing this.
Running in debug mode I get repeatedly told fusesmb.cache is already running

in .smb there is a fusesmb.cache.pid file that refers to a non-existent process
there is no fusesmb.cache file
so for example on a fully up to date Kubuntu Lucid machine I get this after
trying to mount my samba shares with fusesmb (smbnetfs is not yet installed on
this machine)

administra...@administrator-laptop:~/.smb$ ls
fusesmb.cache.pid  fusesmb.conf
administra...@administrator-laptop:~/.smb$ cat fusesmb.cache.pid
2721
administra...@administrator-laptop:~/.smb$ ps -e | grep fuse
 2801 pts/000:00:00 fusesmb
administra...@administrator-laptop:~/.smb$

smbnetfs continues to work fine so I will not change what I am doing
with that

system). ps shows a process tree like this again and again

[Bug 573919] Re: autofs doesn't work with lucid

2010-05-20 Thread Klaus Steinberger
Same problem here, autofs doesn't work because statd is not started.

Some more debugging revealed that:

if some NFS3 mount is used in /etc/fstab, anything work, statd ist
started automatic, but if there is no NFS3 mount inside fstab statd is
not started even with autof. So some of the upstart rules for
statd/autofs will not work correctly.

Workaround for me is now to add a static NFS3 mount inside /etc/fstab

After days of tests it seems it's a kerberos tickets forwarding problem,
smbclient replying with an spnego error claiming a lack of information from

The group resolving problem looks like an issue with ticket forwarding

downgrading smbclient does not fix the problem.
There was no problem with this filer when i used a ubuntu 9 workstation and
kerberos/likewise.

Thanks for reporting this bug, and helping make Ubuntu better. It looks
like you may have had some information already in your cn=config tree.
Assuming you no longer want that information can you execute:

  sudo dpkg-reconfigure slapd

Then retry the above commands?

Thanks again.

2010-05-20 Thread Dave Walker
Paul, thanks for the Debdiff. I notice the version in lucid is
2.2.2-3ubuntu6, and your debdiff bumps to 2.2.2-3ubuntu7. This would
mean it's a higher version than the one in the latest development
version of Ubuntu. The version should be 2.2.2-3ubuntu6.1, this
should just mean a case of changing it in debian/changelog.

Thanks again

BUMP! This is becoming a real Pain in the backside now.. The more
Windows 7 Clients I add the more times each month I'm disturbed to
rejoin machines to the Domain after they've lost their trust
relationship.

Can anyone shed any light on this problem??? Either an explanation of
why it happens, how to prevent it, or whether upgrading to Ubuntu
10.04LTS will make any odds.

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

[Bug 571093] Re: multipath + libvirtd eats away more memory over time

2010-05-20 Thread ariel
I performed some additional observations, I agree Nigel's statements in
#13:

disabling the change ACTION in /lib/udev/rules.d/95-multipath.rules is
just a bandaid, the memory leak is there anyways, just that it takes
wy longer to fill in the memory.

The problem solved by disabling the change ACTION in
/lib/udev/rules.d/95-multipath.rules seems to be a real bug somewhere in
udev or multipath: monitoring with udevadm the number of events gets
reduced from tons per second to one every 30 seconds in my hardware,
which shows all the other events were spurious events generated by a
udev/multipath feedback loop...

That issue is being tracked in

[Bug 566792] Re: metadata service returns empty data with 200 OK

2010-05-20 Thread Scott Moser
OK. I think I've figured out what is causing this.
in 100% of the failed instances that I'm seeing today, the instance has its
public ip identical to its private ip.

Ie, the following is euca-describe-instances output of a failed instance:
INSTANCEi-2F1A0573  emi-E58B1525172.19.1.48 172.19.1.48
running uectest-k0  0   m1.small
2010-05-20T15:34:28.275ZUEC-TEST1   eki-2B241A2B

And this is from a successful instance:
INSTANCEi-37A30725  emi-E58B152510.55.55.187172.19.1.34
running uectest-k0  0   m1.small
2010-05-20T15:34:06.874ZUEC-TEST1   eki-2B241A2B

Note, these instances were not launched with '--addressing private'.

$ euca-describe-addreses | sort
ADDRESS 10.55.55.100i-4A34090E (eucalyptus)
ADDRESS 10.55.55.101available (nobody)
ADDRESS 10.55.55.102available (eucalyptus)
...
ADDRESS 10.55.55.238nobody
ADDRESS 10.55.55.239nobody
ADDRESS 10.55.55.240nobody
$ euca-describe-addresses | grep nobody | wc -l
24
$ euca-describe-addresses | wc -l
141

It seems there should have been addresses available, euca-describe-
availability-zones only shows 32 instances max.

# on the cloud-controller
cc-host$ cat /etc/eucalyptus/eucalyptus.local.conf
VNET_MODE=MANAGED-NOVLAN
VNET_SUBNET=172.19.0.0
VNET_NETMASK=256.255.0.0
VNET_DNS=10.55.55.1
VNET_ADDRSPERNET=32
VNET_PUBLICIPS=10.55.55.100-10.55.55.240
VNET_CLOUDIP=10.55.55.2

The testcases (lp:~uec-testing-scripts-dev/uec-testing-scripts/trunk/)
basically keep firing off instances 1 by 1 with euca-run-instances as long as
'euca-describe-availability-zones verbose' reports that there is space. Note,
instances are ran *without* '--addressing private', but appear to be getting
private addressing.

[Bug 566792] Re: metadata service returns empty data with 200 OK

2010-05-20 Thread Daniel Nurmi
Scott, thank you for pursuing this issue. Indeed, the meta-data service
keys off of the public IP of the VM, since that is the only source
address that is translated when the NCs cannot directly contact the CLC
(MANAGED modes). In order for the meta-data service to work, the VM
needs to be assigned a public IP, and it looks like this operation is
failing (indicated by the fact that the public/private IPs being
reported are both from the private IP subnet).

Lets take a look at cc.log for an instance that is failing to get a
public IP (look for the RunInstance that corresponds with the instance
ID in question, and include a few minutes of log after the RunInstance).
We're specifically looking to see if an AssignAddress() operation is
ever called for the VM's private IP, or if no AssignAddress() is ever
called for that VM. I think this will help us figure out why that VM is
not getting a public IP assigned.

Thanks again, I think we're close to being able to get to the root cause
of this.

p.s. I notice that your VNET_NETMASK is set to an invalid value, but
the iptables output doesn't reflect this problem; can you confirm that
your VNET_NETMASK is actually '255.255.0.0' and not '256.255.0.0' as was
reported above? If it is, note that this may have unforeseen
consequences.

[Bug 513562] Re: Windows 7 Pro machines trust relationship fails

2010-05-20 Thread Nic
Why not change the
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters\MaximumPasswordAge

I can't test right now. Anyone else care to?

 Scott, thank you for pursuing this issue. Indeed, the meta-data service
 keys off of the public IP of the VM, since that is the only source

[Bug 566792] Re: metadata service returns empty data with 200 OK

2010-05-20 Thread Scott Moser
I'm attaching 2 files. failed-instance-cc.log (i-3812076B) and good-
instance-cc.log (i-42A70769)

Unfortunately, I dont think they'll be of a whole lot of use, as the
'AssignAddress' calls are not tied to the instance id in the log, so I
dont know how to tell which call was for which instance id. In the
'good-instance-cc.log', there was really only one instance, but in the
failed version, there are lots of things happening (the test case is
running).

[Bug 583542] [NEW] ssh server doesn't start when irrelevant filesystems are not available

2010-05-20 Thread Jeffrey Baker
Public bug reported:

In Lucid, the SSH daemon won't start at boot unless all filesystems
listed in fstab can be mounted. This is annoying to the administrator
because some fstab entries are irrelevant and/or could be expected to
have transient failures. When SSH doesn't start, it's impossible for
the admin to do an in-band fix of these filesystems.

Examples of when filesystems might not mount:

Underlying device not attached
NFS server unavailable
iSCSI target unavailable
RAID without a quorum of member devices
Kernel package upgrade disabled certain filesystem modules

And so forth. The line start on filesystem should probably be edited
to something a bit more robust.

[Bug 583530] Re: vm-builder 0.12.3-0ubuntu1 crashes and causes loop devices to be stuck

2010-05-20 Thread Yann Hamon
Sorry if I cant add much infos, but I had the same issue on lucid a few
days ago. Ps -ef would show all the loop devices (8 of them as far as I
can remember).

If that helps chris, vmbuilder wont work as long as those loop devices
are used - but if you reboot (I know...) it will clear the loop devices
and vmbuilder will work. Just don't ctrl+c too much when running
vmbuilder as long as this isnt solved...

udevEventHandleCallback(...) will call udevAddOneDevice(device) in turn
runs udevGetDeviceProperty(...) indirectly.

Assuming (and I'd need to check this) that udevGetDeviceProperty()
returns PROPERTY_ERROR then I have a feeling we have found the problem
as it does not look to have free'd the memory in the exit path - would
have to check, especially if udevRemoveOneDevice also fails.

-- non technical bits --

It would be interesting to see if other peoples debug output from
libvirt mimics my data. Instructions can be found at
http://honk.sigxcpu.org/con/Debugging_libvirt.html

In particular instead of libvirtd -d, try:

LIBVIRT_DEBUG=1 libvirtd -v

I'm going to have a bit more of a play around soon to see if I can work
this out a bit more.
