I only did apt-get install snmp snmpd Looks like there are missing MIBs that are referenced by existing MIBs but I can't find them in any Ubuntu package. In a discussion in #rabbitmq on Freenode, the users there informed me
that there are actually two problems at play here.
Comment #3's log indicates that something was already listening on
rabbitmq's port, presumably rabbitmq. It does not indicate that there
was a failure looking up hostname.
What really seems to be the big issue is that if hostname changes,
rabbitmq cannot be restarted, nor can it be effectively queried for
status. This is because somewhere in /var/lib/rabbitmq, the hostname is
stored.
This actually means that any time hostname changes, rabbitmq cannot be
restarted without clearing all of its persistent storage.
Ouch.
Its not clear that we can fix that, but we can at least make the init.d
script provide some useful warnings on the conditions that:
* hostname has changed from the original (rabbitmqctl status will predictibly
fail in this instance)
* hostname is unresolvable (a simple host lookup will do)
Instructing users to change the hostname back, and/or change it to
something resolvable, would probably be the best way to go.
For now, a workaround is to run
rabbitmqctl status
If this fails similar to this message:

Note that it mentions list_to_existing_atom, [rab...@localhost] .. after @ is
the old node name, and the one that you must set your hostname to in order to
start rabbitmq again. I will set about trying to hack that into the init.d
script to at least give people a fighting chance to correct their hostname.
Also, if you try to start rabbitmq and you get TIMEOUT .. thats caused
by having changed the hostname as well

Thomas, AFACT, there is no upstart job for rabbitmq-server, and the dependencies in /etc/init.d/* don't really apply to the system anymore w.r.t. filesystems, because mountall does all mounts before rc-sysinit 2 is called. Further, the dependency on remote_fs is something that would always come *after* local_fs, so that isn't an issue either. You should have something in /var/log/boot.log, /var/log/rabbitmq/startup_log, or /var/log/rabbitmq/startup_err that indicates why it was not started. If its symlink is there as /etc/rc2.d /S20rabbitmq-server as it should be, then there's no real reason that I can think of for it not to start. I'm using ubuntu 9.10 and was having those messages on /var/log/syslog when trying to stop mysql. Added the line /sys/devices/system/cpu/ r, to the end of directories listing (before the last }) of /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld and now the messages stopped... but i can't stop mysql yet. You could potentially work around the regex misinterpretation issue by using some more complex combinations of grep and awk and so forth, but there's a better reason to not use getent | grep. [Bug 670289] Re: Laptop won't shut down with rabbitmq running
Clint, when shutting down, the console doesn't show much. It shows killing apache, a few other things, and then it stalls when trying to shut down rabbitmq. I.e, it doesn't get any further, so sendsigs doesn't get executed. It's the 'rabbitmq-multi stop_all' that hangs. Seems it's waiting forever for the node to shut down. I'm attaching shutdown_log. Also, I modified the init.d script to log what 'rabbitmq-multi status' says, and it says: Status of all running nodes... When i want to add a virtual network on virt-manager and try to add it
as all physical medium and routed i get this message:

I am logged as the User Psi and the user is on the group libvirtd. I tried to
reinstall virtmanager and qemu-kvm and then i tried again and it still gives
out the message.
The folder /usr/share/virt-manager is owned by root and i tried to change the
whole folder and sub-folders to the User Psi or group kvm/libvirtd and it still
shows me the message.
