Hello, The ip-addres 169.254.169.254 for metadata service is now found in the ifconfig. I think this is done by some registrations in the cloud. So, i think: you must register something (Walrus or Cluster) before reboot, when eucalyptus-nc is installed on the same server. I believe this is fixed in QEMU 0.14... referring to changelist (first paragraph) on http://wiki.qemu.org/Changelog/0.14#virtio The references I gave above specifically referenced the authors applying the 'bottom-half' fix, although they did not, as I recall, mention what the fixed was against. Where QEMU 0.14 is final now will Natty pick the final release of it? To answer your questions, I am running 10.10 Maverick as the node controller and guest OS. Does that fix go against the host (node controller OS or the guest OS? In other words, would running a current Natty ec2 image resolve the issue? I was unable to send e-mail from a remote e-mail address to one on the local box until I merged all the auth.d/* and conf.d/* configuration files into the main 'dovecot.conf'. However, I was able to connect to and log into the POP3 server using Thunderbird and send mail out through Postfix via SMTP, so I can see how cursory testing of this setup would work as 'deliver' isn't involved in either process. The error in my mail logs that I was receiving was dovecot: deliver([redacted]): Fatal: postmaster_address setting not given, yet dovecot -n clearly indicated that the postmaster_address was set and I could see the address in the configuration file in the conf.d/* directory. Adding '-c /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf' to the Postfix 'master.cf' file had no effect. Only when I merged the files into 'dovecot.conf' and commented out the 'include_try' lines did 'deliver' start delivering mail. I'm using a wireless connection with wicd (wlan interface is wlan0). Adding mkdir -p /var/run/samba does not solve the problem. Changing start on (local-filesystems and net-device-up IFACE!=lo) to start on (local-filesystems) in /etc/init/nmbd.conf fixes it and nmbd starts. But this is not the right way to fix it, because there are other services which depends on net-device-up. I think it's wicd not emitting net-device-up when my wlan0 comes up. I have the same problem. I am using virt-install and I get the following
error:

[Bug 419182] Re: KVM and audio driver in Windows 7
From reading the VirtualBox site they had the same problem, that none of
the emulated sound cards would work with 64bit Windows 7/2008 as they
are all too old chipsets. They solved it by adding a new sound card to
Virtual Box ('Intel HD Audio'). But appears this remains a compatibility
'bug' for kvm/qemu.
This bug has been marked invalid, however I don't think that is a
sensible position; as the only viable fix can be a kvm/qemu change, as
it seems unlikely anyone is going to write 64bit Windows drivers for the
old unsupported chipsets that kvm/qemu provides.
That is kinda like marking a bug about no VM IDE hard disk emulation
support as invalid because the VM provides MFM hard disk emulation :-)
Even emulated hardware need to keep up with technology.
