When I shutdown a guest (tried with both WinXP and RHEL6, tried with
shutdown from virsh and virtmanager and from within guest), at the
point the client has shutdown (Halting System... in RHEL6 terms) the
state keeps being running. Also, the guest processes are still there,
but I can't kill them. Then, whatever I try to do with those guests, I
must wait for minimal 1 minute after I get Timed out during operation:
cannot acquire state change lock.

But when I do '-vga vmware -vnc :1', it works quite nicely. However I'm using natty livecd as a guest. I spoke with Keybuk briefly about changing the startup conditions for runlevel 2, and he warned that there may be one unforseen circumstance. Its possible right now to have a sysvinit script that supports a network interface coming up. Meaning that there may be an interface that will spin while coming up until a sysvinit daemon starts, blocking ifup -a from completing (and therefor delaying 'started networking'). This can happen because we start runlevel 2 as soon as we have a loopback device, so ifup continues beyond that in parallel with sysvinit. So, we may need to review all ifup pre/post scripts to make sure they don't wait on sysvinit scripts, and if they do, change them to fork into the background to do so. We'd also need to document this behavioral change in the release notes so people can test any custom setups before upgrade. It in fact did not fix the problem. The problem was that writeback cache is off by default in Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS, but the default was on in Ubuntu Server 8.04 LTS. It was a backwards incompatible change that was not documented, and it took months of my time to resolve. Did you (users suffering this problem) checked that you are actually connected to the computer you try to use SSH with? In my case, I forgot to switch to the other wifi router to connect, and that's what is killing the program. Maybe that is the bug. My case is not bug (or at least, the action which triggers it is to not be connected to the same router with both computers, the other one is connected to another router and is the routers which are connected each other, anyway, the bug is triggered when using in a useless way XD).
