2011-04-07 Thread James Page
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

It would appear that the postfix package has not been configured with an
appropriate mailname (and hence /etc/mailname is not present).

Please can you reconfigure postfix using the following command ensuring
that you set a FQDN for the system mailname.

  sudo dpkg-reconfigure postfix

Please update this bug report if this resolves your issue

2011-04-07 Thread James Page
Note that amavisd also requires a fully qualified domain name for
$myhostname

This can be set explicitly in /etc/amavis/conf.d/05-node_id or you can
fix your system configuration to return a FQDN by updating
/etc/hostname.

[Bug 753330] [NEW] The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action, was called for PID 1783 (/usr/sbin/winbindd).

Public bug reported:

Guys I receive this message occasionally when I restart my Ubuntu
Server:

---
The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action,
was called for PID 1783 (/usr/sbin/winbindd).

This means there was a problem with the program, such as a segfault.
Below is a backtrace for this process generated with gdb, which shows
the state of the program at the time the error occurred. The Samba log
files may contain additional information about the problem.

If the problem persists, you are encouraged to first install the
samba-dbg package, which contains the debugging symbols for the Samba
binaries. Then submit the provided information as a bug report to
Ubuntu by visiting this link:

[Bug 753605] [NEW] removing mysql with apt doesn't delete user mysql

2011-04-07 Thread Enrique
Public bug reported:

I installed mysql-5.1 and later on I wanted to remove it. When I purged
it, the mysql user is still in my /etc/passwd. I think that the user has
to be removed, to leave the system in the same status as before.

It can be reproduced with the following commands:
apt-get install mysql-server
apt-get purge libdbd-mysql-perl libdbi-perl libhtml-template-perl
libnet-daemon-perl libplrpc-perl mysql-client-5.1 mysql-server mysql-server-5.1

After that, the user mysql appears at the end of /etc/passwd, which shouldn't.
Also, the group mysql should be removed, if contains no other users.
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 TLS

 Regards

[Bug 753605] Re: removing mysql with apt doesn't delete user mysql

2011-04-07 Thread Marc Deslauriers
From a security point of vue, removing a user isn't a good idea. There
could be files in the filesystem that are leftover with the mysql user
UID, and if the mysql user is deleted, the UID may be reassigned,
rendering those files visible to the new user.

[Bug 753779] [NEW] walrus fails to retrieve images on instance startup

2011-04-07 Thread C de-Avillez
Public bug reported:

Well. After a long search, with lots of colourful herings, I zeroed in
this: trying to start a new instance; instance would stay in pending for
a while, then it would auto-terminate. After a series of false cues (my
colourful herings, at least one of them bright red) Serge noticed that
the /var/log/libvirt/qemu/i* logs would have a *LOT* of failed startups,
with this message in:

Failed to allocate memory: Cannot allocate memory
2011-04-07 12:34:43.451: shutting down

then the instance would retry a few times.

looking around, I finally noticed that when this happened -- about 99.9%
of the times in my tests -- the walrus would, at about the same time,
barf with some messages like:

[Bug 747090] Re: wrong return address sometimes pushed for INT in kvm (not qemu)

2011-04-07 Thread Serge Hallyn
Building a kernel with emulate_int_real removed, I assume that will
start working.

I suspect the right answer will just be to increment eip, of course,
i.e. something like insn_fetch(s8, 1, c-eip).

[Bug 636195] Re: Autofs for LDAP doesn't contain ldif file

2011-04-07 Thread Jamie Brewer
After much hair-pulling (mostly because the documentation is sketchy at
best, partly because I'm a LDAP noob), am able to confirm that the
posted LDIF works. That said, in the process I found that there are the
two alternate schema options for ldap automount trees - one that's
apparently NIS based, and one that uses automountKey and
automountMapName instead of ou and cn. Is the schema provided indeed
the most up to date general use schema?

I was wrong about the path being taken when this happens -
emulate_real_int() is not being called by emulate.c:emulate_int(), but
by x86.c:kvm_inject_realmode_interrupt().

[Bug 494141] Re: CUPS starts after SAMBA; printers are not available (convert cups to upstart)

2011-04-07 Thread Lucio M Nicolosi
Re #48

Clint, every time I have to restart Maverick 64 (hopefully seldon) I
subsequently run sudo service smbd restart (too lazy and ignorant to
put it on a script) because printers will not load in Samba. Can't
remember if I had too do it on Lucid. Will try to leave the system alone
for a few hours and see what happens but the last time I did it, I could
not observe what Martin stated at #30 (samba reloads the printers every
750 seconds) by the way (can' help but notice), already commented at #32
on Oct, 2010. Could it be something with my config? This is a Mav. 64
clean install, no leftovers from Lucid (besides /home).

[Bug 494141] Re: CUPS starts after SAMBA; printers are not available (convert cups to upstart)

2011-04-07 Thread Lucio M Nicolosi
Although the default smb.conf parameter printing equals to cups
(printing = cups) unless the parameter printcap name is set (printcap
name = cups) the printers do not load in the periodical samba reload
process referred at #30, thus requiring a manual sudo service smbd
restart.

Since I try to keep my smb.conf as lean as possible, trying to keep the
defaults, I didn't notice this up to some minutes ago when checked the
smb.conf file at #42. My fault, sorry, feel really ashamed, but if one
day someone arrives here looking for a solution for this bug while
riding a Maverick or Natty my mistake can be useful.

So Martin Pitt was right, in Maverick and (by the way) Natty, although
CUPS isn't available at samba startup, and this is a nuisance, it is
automatically reloaded according to the printcap cache time parameter
which defaults to 750, (too much for me, reduced to 300 or five minutes
printcap cache time = 300) providing you set printcap name = cups
which, at the original smb.conf, looks like default but isn't...

[Bug 753330] Re: The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action, was called for PID 1783 (/usr/sbin/winbindd).

2011-04-07 Thread Theodotos Andreou
Do I need to create a winbind-dbg using the procedure describing in the
above link? It looks like samba-dbg has some files relevant to winbind:

# dpkg -L samba-dbg | grep -i winbind
/usr/lib/debug/lib/libnss_winbind.so.2
/usr/lib/debug/lib/security/pam_winbind.so
/usr/lib/debug/usr/sbin/winbindd

The debug report is longer now:

---
The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action,
was called for PID 1653 (/usr/sbin/winbindd).

A debugging session is active.

Inferior 1 [process 1653] will be detached.

Quit anyway? (y or n) [answered Y; input not from terminal]

A correction to my original post: This happens every time you restart
the winbind daemon.
